I have no more comments. It is apparent that your high level (but unwarratned) anxieties are making it difficult if not impossible to accept my reassurance, so I'm not going to make any more efforts to do it. Just have an HIV test and rely on the negative result.
That's all for this thread.
Also are the numbers really in my favor? I am going crazy thinking about what happened and not sleeping well. Plus the fact that I had an inflammation afterwards is making me stressed beyond belief.
Good morning doc, I have a few more questions Even though I had a condom on once it broke that makes the sex unprotected I understand this logic. With that being said how does that make my risk factor very low?
Is it safe for me to have protected sex with my girlfriend?
Your disucssion on the STD forum ended with this comment from Dr. Hook: "You had unprotected intercourse with a partner of unknown HIV status. It is statistically unlikely that she had HIV or, even if she did, that it would be transmitted to you. Therefore your risk of HIV is very low. The does not mean that it would not be a good idea to have an HIV test. It would be, just as it is useful for you to have your blood pressure and cholesterol checked. A test 6-8 weeks after your exposure will provide reliable results that you can have confidence in." That's exactly my view. Have an HIV test in a few weeks. You can expect it to be negative.
We're not going to get into another discussion of the STD aspects that were the subject of your other thread with Dr. Hook. In quick response to your closing questions, urethritis, such as NGU, usually is sexually acquired. And yes, it can be caught from outwardly healthy partners with negative tests for all STDs. UTI generally means a nonsexually acquired infection of the urinary tract. UTIs are rare in males under 40 years old. Since this is the HIV forum, not for other STDs, that is all I'll have to say. You are under the care of a knowledgeable provider; that is where to ask any remaining questions about it.
