Worried for nothing?

Dear Dr.
I am very safe about sex. However, since I was diagnosed with generalized anxiety disorder when I was 15. I am now 20. The reason i am telling you this is because lately I have been scared of having HIV. I have been with the same partner for two years, who is monogamous and I took his virginity. Back in June of 07' he had back surgery and a routine HIV test was done and it came out negative. Back in december of 07'  I had a CBC blood test before a colonoscopy exam. My results were normal. However, i know that CBC can't always detect HIV. Anyways, for the past few months I have had weird underarm pain and I googled this and it said it could be swollen lymph nodes, which could be HIV related. I have kind of ignored these under arm pains. I don't know why i am so scared. My boyfriend does not understand my anxiety. He said he would get a test with me but he wants to know why I'm so scared. I have not slept around or shared needles or done anything to get me at risk. Just occasionally I get this HIV fear. What should I do? I am also very sensitive of the subject because I feel bad for everyone who has to go through this illness.

Thanks for reading,
Mischa

No doubt going in for a rapid cant hurt although you clearly dont need one but if it makes the anxiety all better go for it, it only takes a few minutes anyway.

Thank you everyone for the support regarding my anxiety. I think I'm just going to get a rapid test this week just to clear my mind. I might have a panic attack in the waiting room but it's just good to know my status for sure.

I have couple of suggestions for you.

1) To ease any fear from your mind do a basic blood check up, although you don't need it. However an all negative result will give you a peace of mind. These days, test are very good and accurate.

2) Keep yourself busy with various activities. As an example, I did a stupid act of cunnilingus to a CSW. I was scared to my life, had feared thoughts of my guilt feeling, thought for my loved ones. It went for 3/4 weeks. Although I came to know from various doctors that I don't need to worry from a one time oral exposure. But in the lst few weeks, I became busy with other activities and currently in much better shape mentally. Fear for HIV do come but goes away very quickly. My 4th week result came back negative and waiting for a 8th week period test. I am giving time for my studies, friendly gossiping, spending time with good friends etc. You can also think about doing physical activities and yoga to ease any tension or anxeity.

3) You can also have a nice meeting with good councillor and he/she can help you out from this fear. You have done nothing, so your fear should go away quickly.
