Still scared after 3 times HIV test

Hello Doctor, it is of my great pleasure to seek for your professional advice here and kindly stand with my poor English.

I am from Hong Kong and I had a protected sex with CSW in China on 10th March, 2012. 14 days later I got some strange symptoms that I had never have. Would you kindly answer the questions below? Thanks for you time and advice in advance.

1) Does French kiss transmit hiv virus? I had French kiss with the CSW for many time.

2) I had protected sex with the CSW but I did not sure how the quality of the condom was. The condom was provided by the CSW and I hadn't seen this brand at all. Does the bad quality increase the risk? I am not sure if there was leak or small cut on the condom.

3) I got hiv blood test 23 days, 61 days and 97 days post-exposure and the results are negative as below
23 days - 0.2
61 days - 0.16
97 days - 0.16

The tests are Abbott ab/ag combo test. I have no idea in which generation it belongs to. Is it reliable? Also, with regard to the last two tests, the results are the same and I doubt that it might be inaccurate.

2) My symptoms appeared seperately in 3 months and some still exsists, which made me embarrassed with HIV. I have no fever at all. Until now, my intestines and stomach are not well occassionally; the joint and arthrosis around me do always have knock-sound easily. Besides, I have no interest in eatting as I don't feel hungry all the day.

I realize that my health is turn worse after the last exposure...More terribly, doctors have no idea in what has happened to my health. My blood test has no problem...

I have already spent much checking my body... should I re-test 6 months after the exposure? Can I have sex with my girl friend??

Once again, thank you for your time

Best regards,
Jeffrey

Welcome to the forum.

Responding only to the title of your question, before reading anything else:  assuming one or more of your 3 tests was done at least several weeks after your last possible exposure to HIV, there is no rational basis to still be worried you might have HIV. The HIV blood tests are among the most accurate diagnostic tests ever developed, for any medical condition, and the results overrule all other factors.  In other words, it doesn't matter what exposures you may have had or what symptoms you have experienced.  The test results prove you don't have HIV.

Now I have read the question itself. The above comments cover it all. You had a low risk exposure (kissing is no risk) and your symptoms are not typical for HIV.  But even if the exposure had been maximum risk or your symptoms typical, the test results overrule them.  All "combo" tests are 4th generation and the tests are 100% reliable.  Pay no attention to the numerical results.  As long as they are below the positive-negative cut-off, any differences are meaningless.  (The very same blood specimen can give different numbers on repeated testing.)

Based on the exposure you had, you should never have stopped having sex with your girlfriend. You certainly can resume it now.

Best wishes--  HHH, MD

1) Yes, I knew that.
2) There is no such thing.  That's a wacko urban myth.
3) Routine blood counts usually are normal in people with HIV.

Believe your test results and do your best to stop worrying about HIV.  Ignore any further concerns that come to mind.  There is no information you can provide that would change my opinion or advice.

Thank you Doctor, I feel comfortable after reading your advice. Just three more follow-up questions:

1) I am not sure if it is blood test or not. But as far as  know, it is not the test on the paper (not rapid test). A tube of blood was needed for the test.

2) Will there be any secret virus similar to HIV as I found in other forums that some people are suffering from the symptoms of HIV after the exposure, though their tests are negative. Doctors have no idea about that at all.

3) If someone is infected with HIV, will there be any indication reflected from the regular blood test like the amount of white corpuscle?

Thank you for your help!

Best wishes,
Jeffrey
