Hello Dr. H,
Well I went back to the doctor today since it was my 6 week mark since exposure. My results for HIV were negative. The doctor did a full body check on me since I have been ill. She found swollen lymph nodes under my arm pit and behind my leg. She is definately concerned and says that it is sometype of virus. I have to go back and give more blood tomorrow. She is testing my white blood cell count and for mono and syphilis.
I am concerned, so I hope that this is mono or some other virus than HIV. It's just hard not to worry about it given the time frame of symptoms.
"there is no other possible way I could possilbey be infected": Therefore, your second test will also be negative.
Anal redness or not, I would not have prescribed antibiotics.
No antbiotics or other medicines affect the result of HIV tests, except maybe potent chemotherapy of the kind used for cancer.
Thanks for your reply doctor. I have never been unfaithful outside of my marriage, so there is no other possible way I could possilbey be infected.
As far as my Doctors are concerned, they did acknowledge the redness around my anus and urethra so they thought to give me antibitics in case of infection.
This is my last question and I will post the results of my 6 week test so others reading can see. Will antibiotics affect HIV testing?
I will not post any further questions, but will post the result. Thanks for your time!
I saw this before I replied. Sinus congestion, nausea and neck stiffness are not ARS symptoms.
Welcome to the HIV forum.
There is no risk of HIV in this situation, since 1) it is the rare woman in the US or other industrialized countries (even among massage and commercial sex workers) who has HIV; 2) the vaginal and oral sex were condom protected; and 3) oral-anal contact is not known to transmit HIV. Further, your negative test at 1 month is virtually solid proof you were not infected. You really didn't need testing at all after this event -- but if you wish to continue with your plan for another test at 6 weeks, feel free. If this is your only risk event, that result will also be negative.
As for your symptoms, they are not typical for ARS, and absence of fever is strong evidence against it. And the blood test is usually positive within several days of onset of ARS. I can't imagine what infections your doctor thought were being prevented or treated with the antibiotics you were given. There was no risk of bacterial STD and your symptoms certainly don't suggest any infection that would respond to antibiotics. (My guess is you pressed your doctor to "do something" or perhaps to prescribe antibiotics. True? If you had done that with me, I would have refused hands down.)
Follow your doctor's advice and feel free to have another HIV test. I will be extermely surprised if it is positive. (And if it is, my first response will be to ask you to 'fess up to an exposure that is a plausible source. Your massage parlor events are not.)
Really, mellow out. You have some sort of minor viral infection, not HIV. All is well.
HHH, MD
Sorry, forgot to add that I have also felt nausea and the sinus, headaches, neck stiffness, sore throat and nausea still continue to this time. Thanks!
