I would not re-test. You do not have HIV. EWH
My PCR was negative. I took the PCR at 26 days past infection they said at 28 days its 99% accurate. Is it worth retaking? Is this test really 99% accurate? THANK YOU FOR EVERYTHING your answer helped me sleep while awaiting results
If you have gotten HIV from receipt of oral sex from this person, you will be the first person to have clearly done so. I agree with your doctor. The chances that you have HIV are tiny. The risk of getting HIV through oral sex is much, much lower than your risk of getting herpes.
While your symptoms are compatible with the ARS, when studied over 99% of persons with symptoms such as yours turn out to have a non-HIV viral infection which most people would describe as a "flu-like" illness. I suspect this is what you have.
The PCR test is the right test to have been performed. The test itself takes only a day or so so your results should be back in relatively short order. If it is negative, you can be sure that your symptoms are not due to HIV.
Hope this helps. Please let us know your PCR results. EWH
