broken condom

Hi on the 23rd of March I had sexual intercourse (one off) with a guy with a condom then we both heard like a popping sound like a balloon pop. He pulled out straight away and change the broken condom. Now I’m terrified he could have given my hiv he said he got tested a year ago and he was negative. So I told him to go and get tested now he refuse and indicates why do you have something, which I didn’t because few days before I went clinic and got the all clear. Please doctor what are the chances of my catching the hiv viruses. I’m going to the clinic next week which would make it 2 weeks I was exposed to the event and again on the 28 of April for the DUO 28days test. I’m from the UK/London.

Welcome to our Forum.  I'll try to help.  I must say, I find it quite frustrating when persons who are interested in having sex are unwilling to have a simple HIV test to relieve their partners' concerns.  Testing is just not that big a deal.

That said, I suspect your are not at risk. HIV is rather uncommon among heterosexual men in the UK (I believe you are female) and his negative test a year ago makes it unlikely that he was infected. Even if he was, your risk of infection from a single episode of intercourse is less than 1 in 1000 which is rather low.  Thus I would estimate that the risk of HIV for you is very, very low.

At two weeks a DUO test would be expected to detect well over half of recently acquired infections and, as I suspect you know, at 4 weeks the results will be definitive.  I am confident that your tests will be negative as the numbers predict.  I hope my comment are helpful to you.  EWH

Great. These result prove you did not get HIV.  No need for further testing related to this exposure.  EWH
