Please ease my mind if possible

Hi there. I've used your forums for other questions and have read many, many of your answers but now I got one. Please read and let me know what you think.  I'm 34, white male, non drug user. I had unprotected sex 2 times with a woman who I find out might be high risk. I heard she had Herpes, and confirmed with her and yes she had herpes, and I got tested and did not catch it. One bullet missed. Now I hear that she might have been with someone who is positive for HIV. The first encounter was about 6 weeks ago, with the second encounter being around 3 weeks ago. I just had a fever this weekend and some loose stool, but some people I know have been sick, and the seasons are changing so I'm trying not to freak out about that. Ok, I've read all over the internet about "insertive" partner being less at risk, and I read what you've said about the 1 in 2000 odds. Guess I just need it said to me. I am making an appointment tomorrow to get tested. So good Doctor, what are my chances I contracted HIV. I assume she's been with some questionable people, but who knows if they wore a condom or not. So this is day one of the freak out period. Let's assume she has HIV as a worse case.Thank you for your work, and helping ease the minds of us guy who jump first, and worry later. I have ABSOLUTELY learned my lesson if I can dodge one more bullet!!!

that is very true Chris and I hope for that - but that is the blood test the only, the results seem to take 2 weeks here anyway. So Christmas will be a continuation of these three months. However 2008 is something to look forward to I hope. Still not sure how to handel my wife who has asked me several times if everything is ok. If I come clean then I risk divorce. But obviously don't want to harm her either. Hard to introduce safe sex into a stable relationship without questions being asked......dilema really.

Herpes takes 6 months to show? OMG I have entered a world of pain. I did not realise that. 3months for the HIV test is Christmas for me.

You're also not out of the woods for herpes yet either.  Herpes antibodies actually take longer than HIV for the body to produce.  I believe herpes testing is 6 months for a conclusive.

Get tested 6 weeks after your last unprotected sex

On a lighter note,,,, Is there anything "special" in the lady, that you went with her "unprotected" again even after knowing about herpes she had, and prepared yourself to face another "bullet"?

For the rest, please follow what Teak has advised you.

If you want the doctor to answer you'll have to post in his forum. You did have a risk and need to test. Test 6 weeks after your last unprotected sex and then again at the 3 month mark to get a confirmed conclusive result.
