The biggest difference is that any infected blood present on the SURFACE AREA of a lancet (or items such as pin, thumbtack, etc) are exposed to the elements and therefore the virus cannot survive. In a true needle stick scenario, the infected blood would be trapped inside the hollow bored needle/syringe, allowing it to be protected/preserved.
Even still, almost ALL needlestick injuries in the workplace do not end up with infection due to it being difficult for the virus to reach a person's bloodstream, which has to happen to allow for transmission.
I don't know how many more ways you can be told...this was NOT a risk, period.
Its ONLY possible if INJECTED!! Pricks are not injections and Lancets can not INJECT.
You had NO RISK as you have been told repeatedly
Kindly Move Along...
whats the difference though people say it happens in workplace needle injuries where they catch hiv whats the difference if u are at home or work its still hiv.i read one thread on here where a police office got pricked and people said it was a possibility
thank you . i am just under stress right now and i hope u guys the best and you never know what people are capable of doing out there and i just worry about my child thats all because she was sick awhile ago and i dont want to get sick on her . god bless you all
No, even if a person did poke another person with a lancet, infection is impossible.
Read what nursegirl wrote
thank you all i wanted to know if someone wanted to infect u that way could they? if u dont mind just answering that
Even if someone wanted to try to infect others...which is irrational thinking...they would have to have unprotected anal or vaginal sex with that person, or share IV drug works. You CANNOT become infected by being pricked with a lancet. Not to mention, almost all lancets on the market today are single use only, and are impossible to reuse.
So she moved only because you confronted her? I'm sorry but your recreation of the events make it very hard to believe. I think that the situation might be a little different then how you portray it.
But anyway, no you did not have a risk as Teak has told you.
its the honest truth she dediced to move out and go back to domiican and she threw out all her sugar testing things. if someone wanted to infect u that way could they . this is all truelly honest
i really believe soo because when i confronted her she skipped town
So your crazy neighbor has HIV poked himself/herself with the lancet and then ran over to you and poked you with it also?
Seriously?
You never had a risk of contracting HIV from a lancet.
its a neighbour who i know has hiv and who is crazy .thanks
Do you work in a hospital? How do you know the person had HIV?
You had no risk by being pricked with a lancet for HIV...you don't need testing
2) a lancet isn't used to inject, its just used to draw blood
you won't get HIV from a lancet...
