Cool Vance. Thanks. I'll drop the further STD questions there.
I will go in at 4 months. That settles it.
STD questions post in the STD forum. But a quick and only answer on STD's here is Herpes is about 4 months but nothing is 6 months.
Hi All,
Doc called. All negative. YES! Thank you God!
8 weeks and I am negative. 4 more weeks to go.
My doctor is insisting I just wait 6 months to get re-tested. He said 3 months is 100% conclusive for HIV, but not necessarily other things. He said, to limit the amount of times I have to go have blood drawn, my 2 month is conclusive enough for him to feel confident that I do not have HIV. He said, waiting for the 6 month mark to do another complete STD panel would be the best choice.
He also said doing a bi-yearly STD panel is always a good idea, especially if I do bi-yearly blood work anyway. They can just take a couple extra vials at the same time.
I told him I would think about it, and decide if I wanted it at 3 months, or 6.
Teak, what do you think? Are there any STD's that wouldn't show up until a 6 month test? If not then I am just going to go do it @ 3 months. I don't want to wait around for the 6 month mark if there is 0 benefit in testing for other STD's.
Blahhh I can't handle the stress of waiting heh. I mean, this is basically it. I am pretty much going to know if I have HIV or not right now. If I am negative I will feel 100 million percent better. I will feel as if it is conclusive, even though it's not.
It will be easy to go into my 3 month test. feeling confident in my negative result.
God, please give me an HIV NEGATIVE result...
8 weeks is a good indication in the upper 90's for percentage, but 3 months is conclusive, not 6 months.
Hello All,
Just want everyone to know that I will be at the 8 week mark exactly, this coming friday.
I went to my doctor, because I was having some stomach problems (from prior), I told him about my 2 occasions of unprotected sex. He advised I should get a test now, and then another one after 6 months.
He said since it's only been 8 weeks since my last possible exposure, the test I am getting now isn't 100% accurate, but he said there is a 99.99999% chance it's going to be correct if it comes back Negative.
So. Just wanted to give you all an update. I will let you know my results. Also, an 8 week blood test is pretty conclusive, right? If/when it comes back negative, Should that be conclusive enough to give me the confidence to wait for a full 6 month check? It atleast will rule out my first unprotected encounter. How conclusive is an 8week blood test?

Without sounding too harsh, you had unprotected sex, therefore an HIV test would be advisable. Your risk or HIV infection is vanishingly small but there is a risk none the less.
Get tested at the three month mark for a final and conclusive result. And remember to always use latex condoms for intercourse, or you may find that eventually HIV becomes part of your life for good.
"what are the chances she had HIV... what are the chances, if she DID have HIV... that I would contract it?"
Your chances of contracting HIV are vanishingly small. See my journal (below) "HIV RIsk in Perspective".
You should expect a negative result on your test.

Yep... thats the one... I know to get tested, but thats a few weeks out... I am going to wait for the 3 month I think.
I may go to my doctor this week though and see what he thinks, if he thinks I should test now then I will, and then I'll test again at 3 months.
I really hope I am negative... Teak... I know you always preak "go get tested" but I would really appreciate if you threw out some numbers... what are the chances she had HIV... what are the chances, if she DID have HIV... that I would contract it? I can't seem to find the answer anywhere. Everything I read says about 25% chance if partner has HIV, that it will be contracted... but I dont trust that.
Any comfort would be nice... :-/ if you can provide any...
Thanks
