SHINGLES and HIV

Guys,

I have posted my situation last August and unfortunately I cannot find the string anymore. As I told everyone here in the forum before, I had a protected sexual contact with a prostitute (the biggest mistake of my life!!!). I have to change my condom for a new one because she(the prostitute) was dry. I changed a total of 5 times and there was no breakage. During this process my finger happens to touch the tip of my penis that was bare at that time which some of the vaginal liquid may have been exposed to it. I wash my penis with alcohol, put on the condom (the 5th time) and finished the sex. --- So as I post this situation I asked you guys If I was at risk of contracting HIV?/Do I need to be tested?/ ---- The replies were No/ No need of testing, respectively.

However, I did not have a peace of mind with that (because I'm a Married man with 2 kids, one is still breast feeding) so I got my self tested on the 6th week for HIV1 and HIV2. The results came out negative.

Until recently (on the 10th week), I got diagnosed by my Doctor with SHINGLES or Herpes Zoster! Now I am really, really, really worried... Perhaps I was infected then with HIV since Shingles appear when you have a weak immune system already. This (shingles) are only common to adults above 50 yrs. old. I am really worried for my family now since I am only their bread winner..

So my question to you guys are:

1. Does the Shingles mean I have contracted HIV? If yes then why? If no then why?

2. Do I need HIV Testing Again?

3. What can I do to ease my mind on my current situation?

Please Help Me... I need your advices and sincere answers.. God Bless.

My sister had shingles twice when she was in high school. She would stress out over final exams and not sleep and only eat chocolate. basically stress, lack of sleep, and lack of nutrients made her immune system crash for the moment. She is no in medical school, I hope it does not happen at finals time again.

My Boss had shingles last week. He is a decently healthy married man in his 30s. His is most attributed to stress and smoking (hence decently healthy). He works 15 hour days quite often, has a baby with a chronic illness.....

While shingles is not the most common illness, it is most certainly possible is the general population.

Sounds like he was bisexual. If you have had unprotected sex and it has been longer than 6 weeks then test and then go get your conclusive test at 3 months post exposure.

I have the same thing and I am absolutely panicked.  I don't know anyone 29 years old with shingles.  I am really scared as well.  Saw my dr today and he said that when someone has shingles they always test them for HIV especially if they are at a young age.  the websites keep contradicting each other.  Some say it is related and others say it is not?????

Shingles have nothing to do with HIV. Anyone that has had chickenpox can contract shingles.
