Did I catch something

My uncle uses a diabetic lancet to poke his finger for testing.  Last week, 10-15 mins after he used it and put the cap back on it i was just curious to test my blood sugar level so i used the same lancet to poke my finger.

Afterwards i relealized that if he there was a drop of blood on the lancet needle it would have infected me 10-15 mins later when i poked my finger to draw blood.

Did i put myself at risk?

I also had same kind of incident but according to teak there is no possibility of infection by lancet sharing...i think lancent is very sharp needle which is only used to break skin..and very less contact with blood....

Because a lot of people post because they think HIV can be passed from someone who doesn't have HIV. You may think it sounds funny but I see a lot of questions like that.

No because the air would have already deactivarted it.

Thanks Vance.  Just wondering why you asked if my uncle was hiv+?

Also, did it matter that the CAP was put back on, would that have prevented inactivation of the virus.

15 minutes...try HIV will be deactivated seconds after being exposed to air and other elements.

You had no risk.

Lizzie/Teak,

Can you please advise me since you both seem to be the forum experts and hiv specialists.

Many Thanks.

I have no idea I dont think it is something i can ask my uncle he may get offended.  After posting this I was going through other posts and noticed that objects do not transmit hiv unless a needle.  And that the virus dies once outside of the body.

Would the virus die in the 15 mins before i used it even if the CAP was put back on?

Is the Lancet same as needle?
