Just got the results and they were negative.
Thank you doctors
Sorry, no change in my opinion or advice,. You should believe your test results. EWH
Hi doctor
Sorry to come back here but again I am sick for the 4th time in 4 months with sore throat and sinus infection. I went to my doctor today and seems a little concern about me gettin.g sick so much. I ended up telling him my risk and he order an hiv test. This would be 24 weeks from my risk. I am so nervous about it now, doctor I am scared because I had sex with my wife unprotected just the other day and now my doctor thinks something is really wrong with me. I am going crazy right now.
1.What are the chances of my 16 week test being false negative?
2. What could have happened to get a false negative so late after the window period?
There is no reason for you to test again or for you to abstain from unprotected sex with your wife. EWH
Thank you doctor for responding and calming my nerves.
Just one last question. I have a lot of anxiety over this for two main reasons, my wife and my kids. Are you so confident base on my test results that you would advise me to continue unprotected sex with my wife or should I test again to make sure? I don't want to infect my wife.
Thank you, that was my last question.
Welcome to our Forum. I'll be happy to comment. The exposure you mention was low risk. Few women have HIV and I would urge you not to believe rumors. Further, even if the rumors were true, the exposure was low as well- HIV is not transmitted by receipt of oral sex or masturbation.
Finally, your test results are conclusive and should be believed. Three days of prednisone take weeks after a possible exposure would not prevent or delay antibody production. your test results are definitive and you do not need further testing.
As for your specific questions:
1. Can 3 days of 40mg of prednisone cause a false neg?
No, certainly not weeks after an exposure.
2. My 16 week hiv test was 7 weeks from my last prednisone pill is that enough time to have prednisone out of my system and have a reliable results.
Yes, the prednisone was completely out of your system by that time. As I said above, your test results are reliable.
3. I didn't go thru my personal Dr for the hiv test I went thru stdalert.com and they use Quest diagnostics how reliable are they? Can I trust them?
Quest is a highly reliable laboratory. You can have confidence that Quest performed your tests correctly and accurately.
4. Since my risk I have been sick with sinus infection and cough 3 times and twice in one month, if I was infected with hiv would it have an affect on my immune system this fast where I'm getting sick all the time now?
No, it sounds as though you are having a run of bad luck- nothing more.
Hope these comments are helpful You are clear. EWH
