In March of 2009 I had been sleeping with someone who claimed he was std free and wanted to have sex without condoms. I never let him, until he slipped it in once for a minute until I made him pull it out and put a condom on. I stopped seeing him after that, and never knew his hiv status. A few weeks later I got really sick, very high fever, swollen glands, extreme fatigue that lasted about two days.
Since then I have only slept with 3 other people, all protected.
However, in March 2010 I somehow contracted pelvic inflammatory disease, I received treatment but the hospital that tested me didn't have the results when I was retested several weeks later (for chlamydia and gonarrhea), so I'm not sure what I had exactly.
I have not yet been tested for hiv since my unprotected encounter (stupid, I know) but after having PID, I started thinking back to when I got sick and read about how you can get flu like symptoms after exposure to hiv.
I'm getting tested this week, and really freaked out. Just wondering how high my risk is with possible preseminal fluid (not sure if there was any) for a few seconds getting in contact with my vaginal fluids. And the whole being sick thing a few weeks later adds to my worry...but it's possible I could've just had the flu. Any opinions or experiences would be really helpful. Thanks.
According to the general guidelines, every unprotected vaginal/anal penetration requires testing. Logically, short-term penetration and absence of semen reduces the risk of HIV, but if I were you, I'd get tested for my own reassurance.
