same thing happened to me .the wife also got sick with sore throat and cold and body pains. i did test at 8 weeks and my doctors told me it was conclusive negative and also other doctors on international forum . rapid test ab 3rd gen .

I am even more worried now as my wife has develpoed a very sore throat and a fever since yesterday. We had sex about 6 weeks ago (before I became concerned by my situation).

As you are already told your risk is very low. But 8 1/2 weeks test result is into the window period.
Go for a single HIV antibody test after 3 months, and most likely it will be -ve.
Your 3 month post exposure test will be conclusive.
