semi-flacid greater or smaller risk?

Dr. H:
I've read many of your forums and appreciate your candor.  I'll try and be brief.  On July 21st I performed prolonged and intense cunilingus on a sex worker, and attempted to have unprotected sex in a drunken stupor.  I could not maintain an erection, but did penetrate briefly.  On July 26, I woke with an extreme case of diarrhea, waves of nausea, a brief spell of violent vomiting, and a mild fever that spiked around 100.8.  Over the course of the next week, my lymph nodes in my neck were swollen, and I had a bit of a sore throat.  All of this subsided.  Buy August 12th, I had a burning sensation on my tongue, which I thought was from brushing too hard.  It has fluctuated in intensity.  My dentist said it was merely some swollen taste buds, and nothing to worry about.  Currently, my taste buds are still swollen, I found a white patch on my upper gum line that seems to resemble thrush symptoms, my tongue is discolored (white and gray) and all taste buds seem to be swollen.  Even the sides seem to be swollen.  The lymph nodes in my neck are still swollen, and a bit painful.  My tonsils and the back of my throat is pretty read.

I had a rapid HIV test at five weeks, results were negative.

I'm wondering if that test is accurate/reliable, and if I probably just picked up oral thrush from the stripper, and my body was just reacting to that.  I'm currently attempting to treat that with a tea tree mouth wash solution.  Do you think this will be effective, if indeed this is what I have?

Thanks for your time.

Dr. HHH doesn't moderate this forum. You need to go to his forum to get a question answered. As far as risk, you did have one. 5 week test is a good indicator, but only a 12 week test is conclusive.

Do you have any thoughts on this?  Should I not be worried about HIV, or anything else since my dentist couldn't find anything wrong?  What causes the swollen taste buds, and makes them painful?

Only a doctor can diagnose thrush. Thrush is not HIV specific. Anyone at any age can get trush.

My understanding is that thrush, or candida/yeast infection, can be transmitted from oral sex...as for HIV, she was a stripper that came to a friend's house for a bachelor party.  What else could it be?
