should i test

i had a one off protected vaginal sex with a csw from nyc a few days ago. I do not know her status. To my knowledge the condom did not break or become loose. i have had no other stds. I'd like to know whether you recommend HIV or other std testing. I am extremely anxious about this.

He is gonna close this thread . There is no possible risk here .None at all , it doesent matter race age or the color of her clear shoes she proably wore . Zero risk is Zero . Let it go and move on ..

Last question: are there any circumstances in which you  or hhh recommend testing after condom protected vaginal sex (including with a csw)?

thanks again.
One last question. Would the nationality or ethnic origin of the CSW make any difference to your previous assessments?

1. Condoms work. If you have no symptoms, your risk for getting other STDs is again, vanishingly low following protected sex with a properly applied condom.
2.  Add at least a 90% increase in reduction of risk due to the condom.  The figures are rather imprecise as this is very difficult to study.
3.  Yes

Thanks Edward. I had three follow ups:

1. what about testing for other STDs?

2. you mentioned a 1 in a 1000 risk for unprotected, is there a statistic for protected?

3. Am I ok to have unprotected intercourse with my partner. This was first (and last) infidelity in 10 years.

You have nothing to worry about for many reasons.

1.  You do not know her atatus as you pointout. The fact is, most CSWs, do not have HIV.
2.  Irrespective of her status, you were protected.
3.  Even if she was infected (remember, it is unlikely that she was) and if you'd been unprotected (but you were) your odds of infection after a single exposure would be less than 1 in 1000.

When you put all of these together, your chances of having gotten HIV from the exposure you describe are vanishingly rare.  No reason to even get tested based on this particular exposure.  EWH
