Hello Doc,

I had what i would i have read to be a low - no risk situation but have been a little guided by guilt since the event hence i am here asking for advice and clarification.

I fingered a female masseuse for a few secs whilst receiving a massage. The lady was of Thai origin. I noticed aftwards that i had a couple of small nicks around my finger nail. Nothing bleeding. probably a few hours old.

Became quite paranoid and had a p24 and Elisa test 3 weeks and 3 days after the incident. Neg- result. Still not convinced i had a Elisa 1&2 at 6 weeks. Neg result. My issue is that now (2 days after the result, i feel very lethargic, i have a swollen node in both sides of my neck, i have some body aches and feel a bit fluey! Is there a chance that i have tested too early regarding this incident.

I repeat, your expsoure was a no risk expsoure.  To continue to worry about it is eally a waste of your time.

At 4 weeks a Duo test would be expected to detect at least 95% of infections acquired 4 weeks earlier.  EWH

Last comment.

Dr. i have taken on board your comments and feel somewaht relieved. Could i trouble you one last time to advise me what the accuracy of the tests i have had done is regarding their timing and the identification of HIV. I think this will help me move past this. I have read the duo test at 4 weeks is quite accurate (mine was 3 and a half weeks) as is Elisa 1&2 at 6 weeks. Can you provide me with a last answer for this thread thankyou.

I see no reason for further testing or for you to abstain from sex with your wife based on what you report.  EWH

Thankyou for the prompt reply. I must congratulate you on the service you provide. In short, My p24 and Eilsa 1&2 at 3 an half weeks is a strong result as is my Elisa 1&2 at 6 weeks. Would you recommend further testing? What would your recommendations be as to whether i can continue intimacy with my wife and put this stupid incident behind me for which i feel disgraceful.

Welcome to the Forum.  I really think you have largely answered your own question and thus my role is largely to validate it.  There is no risk for HIV from masturbation of a sexual partner, even if that partner has HIV (which is unlikely).  Your test results validate what you already know to be the case, this was no risk and you do not have HIV as a result of this exposure.  

As for your symptoms, we are in the midst of a worldwide pandemic of influenza.  You could have the flu or some other community acquired viral illness but for sure, what you do not have is HIV.  You  did not test too early and you can have confidence in the test results you have received.
