The buffer solution is what activates the control line.
Your concerns are VERY indicative of irrational thinking and anxiety. I would advise getting some help with that. People know how to do their jobs, you have to at some point have some faith in that. Pregnant women are advised to test at a certain point in their pregnancy (varies a bit doctor to doctor). If this just your standard prenatal testing? If so, you need to put it behind you and move on.
Well nonreactive is negative and that is what counts. We don't use rapid tests here in Australia so I really don't know much about them. What you would have to assume is that the test was performed correctly by a qualified nurse and that the results were accurate.
It was a rapid test and it was nonreactive. I am just wondering if the buffer solution ran through the test alone if the control line will still appear. I was reading about the test and the blood drop is placed in the buffer solution. The buffer solution is a red/purple color according to the test info. I am not sure what is in the buffer solution. Does something in the buffer activate the control line or something in all human fluids that would be in the blood? My understanding is that the control line is used to indicate the test is performing correctly. This is a tough question I know. I can't find it asked anywhere else.
Hi Laura,
Congratulations on your negative result at 10 weeks. Calm down. If the stick was red that means he did take your blood. The reader turns red as the blood flows through the stick and the buffer reacts to the antibodies if it finds (to HIV) showing negative or positive.
10 weeks is 99% accurate and won't change at 12 weeks, you're negative. He would have had to get a sample of your blood to perform the test so although you might not remember this your blood was obviously taken.Just wait for your negative result to come back.
vaginal intercourse. I am pregnant and have already posted. I did a test at six and ten weeks through lab corp at my doctors office. I wanted to do another at twelve weeks and my doctor said I should just wait until after I have the baby. That upset me bc I need to know before delivery that I am in the clear. So I went to a testing clinic today and I am worried that the guy didn't put my blood on the test strip bc I don't remember him getting the blood off my finger. I was overly nervous about the place and maybe I was just distracted making sure the lancets were nonreusable and i even pricked my own finger. I just need to know if the buffer solution would make the control line appear or if the control line detects something in human blood that the test line doesn't. A different antibody maybe that is not hiv specific but common in all body fluids just to ensure the test is performing accurately. I know I saw the control line. I don't want to call the testing center bc they will be offended. If I know the blood had to be present for the control line to appear I will feel better. I am just wondering if anyone knows. I want my baby to be healthy and the dr. didn't want to do another test and I can't deal with the guilt if I don't get the twelve week confirmation.
