I wake up several times a night because my extremities are numb

I am a healthy 26 year old female that has been waking up several times a night (at least 10) due to numbness & discomfort in my arms (sometimes my legs).  I am unable to sleep in any comfortable position - I cannot lay in a fetus position or on my stomach nor on my side ...UNLESS my arms are completely down by my side.  I am not even able to sleep on my back with my hands on my stomach - within 2 minutes they go numb.

Can you help?

Have you been lifting things or biking or something that puts pressure on your elbow nerve? I find after doing these things (pushing prams, biking, lifting child etc.) I get this. Unlikely to be your heart.

I have had this before. I do not know what caused it, but it went away. I think it may have been some medicine I stopped, some supplement that I started, or a coronary artery blockage cleared by a stent.

I am sorry to be so vague. Are you taking any medications now?

A vitamin B-12 shortage can cause these types of symptoms. I take a proton pump inhibitor, prilosec 40 mg/day, which decreases the amount of B-12 absorbed by your small intestines. My direct B-12 measurement was low, so I started getting monthly B-12 injections. I think this is what made it all get better. Hope this helps...
