In 2003 I was diagnosed with a leaking mitral valve, but the most recent echocardiogram in 2009 shows trace leaks in the aortic and tricuspid valves as well. Everything else--wall motion, ejection fraction, measurements, sinus rhythm--came back completley normal, and was told the ejection fraction is excellent. I am 34, 5'5 and 125 pounds, exericse regularly, eat healthy and don't smoke or drink alcohol, yet within the last two years have blueness in my toes and fingernails and shortness of breath frequently. The cardiologist told me the shortness of breath is likely not related to the heart valves and the blueness is only Reynaud's, yet it doesn't happen with coldness as in Reynaud's. I'm thinking it's time for a second opinion, what are some questions I can ask to have the symptoms taken more seriously? Or is it possible these are unrelated symptoms? I also have an 11 year old daughter, the symptoms of heart palpitaions started during pregnancy and I have had palpitations (rapid and strong and missed beats) since, so I wonder if pregnancy caused the valve problems (the reason I've been too scared to have more children) or if it only made it symptomatic. Thank you.
