Mitral valve advice needed

I was told in February 2010 i had moderate to sever mitral valve regurgitation,i have many symptoms with this such as breathlessness, weakness, fatigue, shaky, back ache also shoulders and neck, bloated stomach, lack of appitite, anxiety and depression.
I was told 16 years before i had chronic fatigue and IBS then 7 years ago fibromyalgia was mentioned.
Is it possible that the CFS 16 years ago was the first sign of my heart problem now?
I have seen 2 different cardiologists, the first says it is important to have the surgery before the end of 2010 "before it gets to the point of no return" the other said at first maybe 2/3 years then maybe 1 year, due to the way i am feeling and the stress and anxiety this has caused he is going to do the surgery now.
What i really want to know is if this surgery will help with the symptoms i am having or is there maybe something else underlying and are my symptoms commom with this problem
I am to have the valve replaced very soon, what benefits should i expect from this

Mitral valve regurgitation should be fixed before there are any irreversal damage to the heart.  A renown heart sugeon with the Mayo Clinic has commented the biggest problem he sees is that the partient has watied too long.  Waiting can cause a serious problem as the heart may have enlarged, and the heart's ability to pump may be impaired....often the heart does not return to normal functionality with an operation and the inability of the heart to pump adequately can be permanent.

You are talking to doctors, it would be better to contact a surgeon (don't wait until the surgery is required), and if the surgeon is someone you are comfortable with ask for his/her advice when to operate.

Yes, it is possible CFS was a sign of a heart problem.  If cardiac output is reduced (pumping normally) but less blood is pumped into circulation because some of the blood back flows into the upper chamber.  However, chest pain, breathlessness, should also have been symptoms so it is unlikely.

Hope this provides a perspective, and helps you with a doctor's advice to reach the right conclusion.  Thanks for the question
