Statins work by working on the Liver, restricting the amount of cholesterol lipids it can
make. Diet alone is not normally enough to reduce cholesterol to acceptable levels in most people. The reason for this is that the digestive system extracts around 25-30% of
your fats for cholesterol from consumed foods. The liver recycles most of the fats it needs or makes it from other chemicals. Now, if you can successfully lower your cholesterol enough to stop taking statins then that's good. I assume before you were put
onto statins you was told to go on a lower fat diet? and blood tests were taken to see how low your cholesterol fell through this process? I assume it was then decided that
diet alone was not adequate and so you was prescribed statins. If that is the case, you will be on them for life.
