Hi Smiley, there has been excellent reports regarding the Ross procedures.  The aortic valve is by-passed and the aortic valve replaces the mitral valve.  The advantage over a mechanical replacement is no need for the life long use of medication.  And bio valves have a limited life span (approx. 10 years).  At your young age, that may not be a good option and the Ross procedure requires special operational skills that may not be available.  The mechanical may be the only other option.  Good luck!

Good luck with your appointment tomorrow!

Get a second opinion on the "repair" (maybe the surgeon will feel differently and think the valve is repairable...worth a shot).

Here's a link to the Cleveland Clinic (#1 Heart Center in the U.S.) regarding valve surgery.  Maybe you will find some relevant topics to discuss with the surgeon.

Wishing you the best!
