heart attack due to prinzmetal angina

I have been told it is rare to have Varient Angina or Prinzmetal Angina, I have also been told its even rarer to have a heart attack brought on by this type of angina. I have had two heart attacks with in five years, has anybody else suffered a heart attack or cardiac arrest because of variant angina?

Thank you for the response, my coronary arteries were found to be clear of atheroma on angiogram. What is the likelihood of experiencing two STMI within five years due to Prinzmetals? I obviously wonder if I may experience another in the future. I am only46yrs old. My first MI was aged 39yrs and my second aged 45yrs. I am on Diltiazem 420mgs daily, Losartan 100mgs and a statin. I experience angina almost on a daily basis so also use GTN as required.
thank you

Hi, prinzmetal's angina, often referred to as "variant" angina, is a temporary increase in coronary vascular tone (vasospasm) causing a marked, but transient slowing of blood flow. Along with this if changes occur in the blood vessel wall due to causes like arteriosclerosis, myocardial infarction can occur. Certain conditions such as diabetes, high blood pressure, smoking and sedentary lifestyle promote this. Other causes for narrowing are stenosis and vasculitis. When a blood clot tries to pass through a narrowed lumen it causes an obstruction to flow. Sometimes the damaged vessel may develop a clot at the site of injury causing diminished blood flow.  Regards.
