With all due respect Vienna you are incorrect. If a patient gets symptoms upon very slight exertion, even walking, then there is a high chance more damage will occur by doing any form of exercise. Symptoms are there for a reason, the body is telling you something. The cardiologist may want to allow some time for medication and rest to have an effect, to see improvement before exercising. I'm not saying that is the situation in THIS case, but it does happen. It is also worth noting that EF cannot be used as a factor because some people feel fine with an EF of 30 while others may feel like they are nearly dead. There are so many factors to take into account.
I am not appreciated you jumping in and discredit my answer.
Please read it again what I said. I was talking about light exercise. No cardiologist in his right mind would say it should be twice or 3-4 times or none. The correct answer is what I said there:"every day." If the patient is overweight there is even more reason to exercise every day.
Hi there -
Everyone should check with their doctors before starting any exercise program, especially those with a cardiac condition. It may be fine for her to exercise, and her cardiologist may well recommend it, but she should check first. There can be other factors to consider - weight, other medical conditions, other medications, etc. - and her cardiologist can address those.
Thanks,
Emily
I disagree . That is interesting to think people need the cardiologist to say how many days a week should a person exercise with cardiomyopathy who is doing well. I was not talking about going to the GYM, but light exercise same extension level like walking.
People sometimes getting answers that more than our ‘opinion giving ‘we should send them to their doctor as I often do also, but that answer I was giving has no harm.Exercising every day is beneficial for people with DCM
I agree with Jon, there are unknown specifics and the answer must come from a Doctor familiar with the case.
....partly because of the regular (every day) exercise.
This type of question is better answered by her cardiologist as they know the specifics of her condition. The members here are not qualified to give this type of input as the wrong type or amount of exercise could be dangerous in her condition. Please contact her doctor.
Jon
I was diagnosed with dilated cardiomyopathy 8 years ago. I never asked my cardiologist for advice about my exercise. He said I do as much as I can and as I want only no lifting. Doctors encourage patients with heart problems to walk every day, light exercise is the same as I see, so my advice : every day.
That is also important for weight control. Never as a self force, but for fun in good spirit.:)
My EF normal now (from the beginning 20%)and that is I believe because of the regular (every day)exercise.
