AFib and Failed Ablations

I have had two failed ablations so far for paroxysmal AFib.  On this site I read of very many failed (repeated) ablations and am beginning to wonder what is the real proportion of successes as we don't hear of these often.  I could progress to a third attempt and my husband, in permanent AFib for three years, is about to try his first.  I am beginning to wonder if it is worth the ordeal....  How's about some encouragement and success stories?  I suppose once a person is cured, they don't perhaps return here to tell us!

I would also like to know the effectiveness span for Flecainide.  I see some have been on the drug for six years plus.  I have been on it for two years now and it is effective for keeping me out of AFib.  Following the latest ablation I was advised to cut the dose from 100 mg to 50 mg, but within a few days, the AFib returned, so for the time being have returned to 100 mg and am doing well again.  How long can this drug be effective in warding off episodes?

I am here. I had my ablation for a-fib & a-flutter back in January 2008. I have been in NSR every since. When I first talked to my EP that did my ablation he informed me that the success rate was about 70%, and that there could be a chance I would need up to 3 ablations. Thankfully, that has not been the case. I will say that if by chance my a-fib returns I would not hesitate to have another ablation.
As far as the effectiveness of Flec, I personally feel it depends on the person. Everyone is different. I was on every drug but my a-fib broke through them all. Good Luck!

Hi. I think you are right. This site is those of us who suffer. I think when you are cured or better or even feeling better you tend to forget about the site or posting or reading. I know if I am ever cured I'll be so relieved to get all this worry out of mind.
I've been on flec 100 2 x day for six to seven yrs. I believe it is just now loosing effectiveness. I am having increased afib and will have my first afib ablation this February.  I have had three tachy ablations in right atrium.
When was your last ablation?
