Death from cardiac arrhythmia

On Sept. 18, 2006, my son had an ECG at a local hospital.  Diagonosis Line is:  Sinus bradycardia - Ventricular pre-excitation, WPM pattern type A   Abnormal ECG   No previous ECGs available.

He was not given any follow up information when he left the hospital.  I found this out through the hospital records.

One March 21, 2007, my son died unexpectedly.  The autopsy revealed cause of death:  Cardiac arrhythmia due to, or as a consequence of Cardiomegaly due to, or as a consequence of Left ventricular hypertrophy.

Question is could something have been done to prevent his death when the ECG was interpereted?  I am on the verge of a nervous breakdown and just don't understand how this has happened.   Thank you for your help.   Annie

I'm so sorry to hear that.  My cardio told me not once, not twice.... and I posted here for so many times.  ER doc unable to read or interpretes my ECG correctly.  They tell all wrong!  Holter report was not made sense (He threw that in the bin).  This time he said the stress test doctor wrote all wrong on the report.  ?   These said by my cardiologist (EP).

If you think it is not right, don't wait!  Seek for a second opinion.  Even ask a heap of questions at the forum.  Ask the doctor at the "Expert Forums".  I think my cardio is over confident.  Sometime he gets wrong too!

I'am really sorry to hear about you're son, that was hard for me to hear, my heart goes out for you and you're family. hugs hugs you can't get enough of them at this time. you need and answer as to what happened exactly, and you deserve it. you maybe should think about a law suit if you do not get any answers as to why you're precious son was not treated when he should have been. please don't let the medical profession give you the runaround. hope you can eventially get a little peace. do not forget to take care of you're self you need alot of tlc. i'm sending my love you're way. hansonkay.

Annie,

I am so sorry for your loss. As a mother myself, I can't imagine anythig worse than losing your child.

Given the info that you provided, it is shocking that he was not referred to a cardiologist for further evaluation. Having worked in a hospital  as an RN, I have to say that nothing surprises me anymore with how patients slip through the cracks by the negligence of Dr's and nurses too.

I can't say for certain that his death could have been prevented, but he would have had a better chance if he had been given the proper referal. Back in Sept 06', was it an ER Dr that read the EKG? What was the reason for the EKG?

Again, I am truly sorry for you tragic loss. My heart goes out to you and your family.
