What could a high ejectioin fraction mean?

A little history first....I am a 56 year old woman with uncontrolled hypertension which my new doc is trying to get under control, no history of heart attack or stroke. I am overweight but am on my way to losing the weight. I do not smoke or drink. Have osteoarthritis which hinders my exercise program of walking. Cholesterol was 200 but good cholesterol off set the ratio so my Doc is not concerned. Triglycerides 101...On Verapamil 240mg
I am not usually an anxious person, but when my heart acts up it does sort of freak me out more than a bit.
I have had two abnormal ECG's showing non-specific st depression and I have had episodes of tachycardia associated with position. Such as standing, sitting or lying down. The tachycardia continues for hours and then finally settles down. My echo showed ejection fraction over 70% and trace leakage mitral valve...probably minor things. I also have tons of PVC's sometimes for weeks on end and some weeks I have nothing.... I am on an event monitor now..so we will see what that picks up.
So now for my question...What does a high ejection fraction mean? I know that it is how much blood is pumped out of my my ventricle or something...
My echo said Hyperdynamic Left Ventricular Systolic Function with Normal left ventricular size and wall thickeness (which probably means my heart is not enlarged...good thing)
Thanks....

Thanks Cindy for your feedback...
My echo did not show MVP..it just showed trace leakage which I know is usually no big problem...
My echo did show that my ejection fraction was over 70% but the true number was not noted...
The results was noted as Hyperdynamic Left Ventricular Systolic Function with Trace Mitral Valve Regurgitation

Good morning i read your post.  A normal range for ejection fraction is 55-75% so you are well within normal limits.  You got the analogy correct it is the fractional measurement of how strongly the blood is pumping thru specific areas of the heart...just like when we take our blood pressure, same theory....its a great test.  As far as the Mitral Valve Prolapse...no big deal there ...over 25%^ of the population has it and never has any problems with it and slight leakage would be pretty normal.  You have basically said it yourself with your post....alot of problems you have going on including your high blood pressure is related to the weight gain and i am super happy that you are taking that bull by the horns here.  I would just bet once those pounds come melting off you are going to notice a whole nother you with your heart and b/p.  Being over weight for any one of us wreaks havoc on our bodies including an enlarged heart it it goes on...we all know blood pressure is definately a part of this.  Just take care of you...you are young so get proactive with giving yourself a chance at life...a happy life....i'd bet as the weight melts away so will the heart issues......good luck to you and let us know how you do!!!
