Heart palps (PVC)

Hi,

I've complained about a flutter sensation in my heart for quite sometime. First was 07 nothing was caught on holter, next time they counted 785! Had echo all was normal range. Was told I was fine. This year I started having them bad I was 24 turned 25 in march. Wore a event monitor and was told it was picking up a lot of pvc's. I have health anxiety as it is and it scared the crap out of me. Went to a cardiologist and of course by the time my apt came these things decide there done torturing me! Had a EKG with NSR doctor looked at my strips and said they were benign PVC and he didn't think I needed an echo.

I woke up this am and had two and had one a few days ago. I'm so scared my hearts going to stop I really want a echo done again, haven't had one since 07. My family is telling me this irrational thinking and it's a waste of resources and that I'm fine. I feel the echo will give me a peace of mine ( if it comes back ok) I get scared to go anywhere because I'm nervous that there's not a hospital near by. My two this morn I got out of bed real fast to turn off my a.c and plopped in bed and layer down then felt them.

What do you guys think about me getting another echo. My PVC aren't as bad as they were but they still scare me I went months without feeling one, ugh :(

Also had a lot of blood drawn up last month including cholesterol, bad and good was normal range

In general, isolated pvcs in an otherwise healthy heart are not a threat to you, especially if you are not experiencing any troubling symptoms with them like shortness of breath, dizziness, or passing out.  Pvcs and pacs are common amoungst most everyone though not everyone feels them and most do not have a large number of them on a daily basis but the heart can generally function quite effeciently even with the number you are having.  It is only when one has quantities of 20,000 or more a day or has them in runs lasting longer than 30 seconds or if one is experiencing any of the symptoms I mentioned that intervention is warrented.  Other than that the medical community deems them benign.  That does not mean that your heart is functioning totally normal compared to the next guy but your heart will keep you alive just fine despite the odd way it is beating.  The important thing for you is to try and do your best to find and eliminate your triggers as best you can.  Caffiene is possibly one but foods that are gas forming, carbohydrates and chocolates can be triggers as well.  Acid reflux and eating too big a meal can cause them to act up.  But the biggest trigger of all is stress.  The ectopics will definitely ramp up when you are stressed or anxious so do your best to try and find some stress management techniques and you will likely find your ectopics slow down the more you destress.

This all said, no one on this forum can give you a clean bill of health.  The fact that you had an echo and it came back normal likely means you will probably have the same results but you need to take care of your health in the best way you see fit so if you feel you would like to ask for another echo you can give it a try and see what they say.  Another option might also be to see a therapist for a short term to get some tools in dealing with your health anxiety.  They will likely be able to teach you how to cope with your fears so you can move forward and get on with living your life.  Take care.  I do hope you can get on top of this once and for all one way or another.  My best to you, we are always here if you need to talk.  Keep us posted on how you are doing.

I think if you feel if something is wrong with your heart you should talk to your doctor again and again and again if you need too. I was having what I now believe to be A fib for years. I went through a few years there where I would run to the ER and by the time I got there I would be in a normal sinsus rythmn. It got to the point I would just ignore it and would not go in. Because my doc sent me for EKG, Stress test, CT scans, MRI's on top of all the EKG's and labs from the ER being normal. They told me my heart was fine and I was either having panic attacks or it was gastro related.

I went to the ER in April of this year with kidney pain completely unrelated to my heart symptoms. During a CT of my kidney/bladder area they caught a glimpse of a tumor inside my left atrium. (left atrial myxoma). I still get the afib but the surgeon seems to think that it is due to me just having the surgery in 31 May of this year. Plus I have had some problems with fluild building in the sac around the heart ( paricardium) known as acute paricardial effusion. Saying all that to say this. If you know there is something wrong then get all the test you can. Not only an echo. Get a TEE if you need one a TEE is like a ultrasound of your heart where they go down your throat to look at it. They knock you out and it takes like 5-10 minutes to do. That is the test they did to confirm my myxoma.

I hope you find out what is going on. I have discovered since reading this board you are not alone in your fear and frustration. Keep at it and you will find out if there is a problem with your heart. God Bless!

Also want to add that I haven't had caffeine since 07 when my doctor thought it was the cause. Still til this day that is not in my diet I drink only water, literally.
