Im sorry to hear about your mom.I lost my mom 7 years ago,but some days it feels like yesterday:( Maybe the Rapid Response is so nerve racking because im just standing there..I cant help so I feel sorta helpless!
When a rapid response was called? HAH! I lived for the adrenalin rush. I was an EMT on an ambulance for years before I was a nurse. When my heart is needed, so far, it has stepped up to the plate to help out others.....HOWEVER, I have changed jobs. I am now a PACU nurse. I work in an ambulatory eye surgery center. I do pre-op and post-op. I also recover general anesthesia and pediatrics. I am through with the adrenalin. My mom just passed away and sometimes I have no safe haven anywhere in my life. My sense of humor and taking care of others is all I've got. I am really loving the calm job, I tell ya. But it was fun while it lasted.
Hey there,Prozac you say?You know what helped me a lot when I was on it,Paxil! The reason Im not on it now is because one month a couldnt get my prescription filled(no insurence)so I stopped taking it..just never used it agian..its been probablly 3 to 4 months.Whats ironic is my pvcs and v tach started almostt 3 months ago.Im not sure if that has anything to do with it or not, what do you think?I thought it was just the areas from my ablation came back....but now im wondering.I take lorazapam, really doesnt do much.Your right though,I shouldnt expect atenolol to take away my pvcs,im on it for high blood pressure anyway lol.Sigh
I dont think you sound like a broken record at all!,your stating pretty much the facts!I just needed to vent. However you did make me laugh because you read my mind about me thinking..if only these doctors could see what was going on in my heart right now..lol lol..Heres the thing though,i am hoping to at least get some sort of medicine for my heart rhythm,im on atenolol for high blood pressure...I know medicine certainly isnt always gonna fix things but when im at work and i have a day like yesterday..as you know its very taxing on your body.I feel physically worn out and tired...like ive excersised all day but without loosing any weight :)You have made me feel ten times better though,THANK YOU!!!!!Im going to try to take some of your positivity and use it in my life:)sometimes I can be negative nelly, funny too because I try to blame it from the stuff I see at the hospital..BUT YOUR A NURSE and still have a great outlook on things:)Quick question, when rapid response is called on your floor, did it really bother you in the beginning? It can ruin my day....make me feel like jumping out of my skin.
RNRita is on the mark. The beta blockers are meant to help make them less noticeable...not take them away. I suggest that you talk with your doctor. One thing that I ended up doing was to start a regimine of low dose Prozac. It did more for me then the BB ever did. I actually think that the seratonin levels in my brain were out of kilter. Though I didn't feel emotionally different, my actualy BIOLOGY was being thrown out of wack. The SSRI does a lot to help me out....though I totally realize that others have different presentations and symptoms.
These things are so individualized. It's no wonder our doctors scratch their heads and say, "sorry...you're going to have to live with it." The just don't really know what to do with us!!!!
I don't want to sound like a broken record, but I was a nurse in a cardiac unit running around in bigeminy and trigeminy (the latter sounds like what you were in), feeling TOTALLY miserable and on death's door, while treating a girl younger than me for bigeminy and watching her telemetry. No one even blinked at it! The cardiologists tried to make her rhythm go back, but it wouldn't so they released her. This was NEW for her. That was a big wake up call for me. I always thought that if they could just see what was going on with me....well, they saw it on her and told her to live with it. She said she was getting used to it and left. I was awestruck. I take atenelol. I've been on every dose from 25 mg to 100 mg and none has changed my PVCs, however my resting HR has gone from 96 to 47. After 20 years on it, it is a normal 72, but I still can go up. For many years I never would go up past 75, but I can now. I really like that particular med better than most other beta blockers, but don't expect any to stop PVCs. The only reason they use them is to slow the rate down. If you do that, you are blocking normal heart beats AND PVCs so they figure there is a chance you'll get less. It isn't noticeable.
Yea, so sorry- hope tomorrow brings much neede RELIEF! Keep your chin up! Thinking of you,
Amy
