so its been almost a month on the atenolol hasnt done much and after 5-7 hours after the first pill it the heart pounding comes back but its to early to take the 2nd pill. and after i take the 2nd its like taking nothing.so now my dr upped the night dosage just to 100mg and i take 50mg in the morning since at night its much worse..but he mentiond doing Ablation from what i read about that it seems to be more for fast heart rates..will it help my extra beats..what exactly are the risks
from the anxiety and the lack of eating i kept feeling like i had to vomit so i would go through the motions and that wasnt to pleasant
i know what i got going is probably not harmful and nothing to really worry about but its very uncomfortable and ruins a good time for me like going out and stuff i mean im only 21 its hard to do things i dont feel comfortable even getting a job right now..i just want to find the right med to atleast control this problem the majority of the time i understand theres going to be times where it comes back even with a medicine that works but right now i feel liky my heart is pounding all the time especially when i lay down thats when im aware of it the most and i see my stomach moving to each beat
Hi,
TOS (thoracic outlet syndrome), after some pressure in my head, I mentioned this to my Family Doctor. He manipulated my arm (left?) somewhat, and proclaimed that I did not have that. It was an interesting read though.
Why were you throwing up? Sounds like Dry Heaves.
Extra Beats with your heart. If the Doctor did not see any significance, they likely are not harmful. Some people literally experience thousands per day. I have days when, for periods of time, I get what is known as trigeminy, every third beat is a PVC. And they are rather strong bangs when they occur. My Cardiologist is unconcerned, having seen the results of various tests over the last year and a half.
Be healthy.
i will mention Nadolol to him
albuterol was it..and i did feel more pain after the 2 times i went to the er and had the treatment but it wasnt immediate i felt an increase in my pain after getting these treatments and its been the same pretty much since then i went a few weeks with less pain then it kicked back in and now its on and off all day like it was..
yea the heart test coming back good is a reinsurance but my 2nd halter did show the extra beats and with medicine not helping its frustrating and the fact that i might have to go through an angiogram
no i havnt had any injurys the only thing that i cant think of that might have cause me some pain was constantly going through the motions of throwing up without actually throwing up during the bad months but it didnt start right after that and was relieved by any pain med
the chest pain i feel either has to be cardiac related(not likely considering my tests) or neurological or something else non heart related my circulation isnt that great and i was reading about this thing thoracic outlet syndrome i have alot of symptoms of this
Hi,
I encourage you to keep in touch with your Doctor.
Consider asking him/her to prescribe Nadolol (Corgard) if they feel that it may help. If it works like it does with me, the reduction in the pounding sensation is more equal throughout the day.
My theory was that if you were having Heart Related Chest Pain at the hospital, and were given a breathing treatment that may have resulted in constriction of the coronary arteries (I don’t know what type of treatment that they gave you, did they give you Albuterol?), you may have experienced increased pain. Apparently you didn’t.
With a good recent Stress Test, and the associated tests, (Holter and such), this should be somewhat of a reassurance to you. In part, chest pains can come from arthritic conditions, (did you ever have a chest injury or other musculoskeletal injuries, were you ever in a car or motorcycle crash?), respiratory conditions, neurological conditions, esophageal conditions, psychological causes, etc.
I get spasms of my esophagus. They can be startling. Sometimes swallowing will quickly alter the feeling, so this usually reassures me that the pain is not cardiac.
Tension can be a horrible monster to live with. Those of us that experience arrhythmias often know the direct relationship between increased adrenaline levels and increase in the number of PVCs (or other arrhythmias).
Search for the following on Google, including the quotes and the word at the end of the quotes but kept outside the quotes. Just copy and paste. “Sometimes (What Seems to Be) A Heart Attack Is (Really) A Pain In The Neck” Mork
The article of relevance was the first one on the list. There seems to be some analogy for your condition.
Keep in touch with your Doctor, but discuss with your Doctor the possibility that some other disorder other than Cardiac may be causing these symptoms.
Great health to you.
the albuterol i might have done one or 2 puffs more then i was suppose to at the time all my problems started but never had a problem doing that prior to this happening.
i went to the er orginally cause of tightness in my chest and felt like my breathing was constricted so they wanted to rule out heart issues then.
i believe when i was given the xanax he told me to use it as needed but not more then twice a day
at the time i was using xanax i was not on anything else
the chest pains come in many different ways and a few different areas i say the most common pain is a stinging like pain
they never found anything wrong with my lungs my peakflow was normal so the extreme anxiety was probably doing something to the way i was breathing at the time
the treatment in the hospital did not make anything better nore did i feel worse it just made my heart race.
well the feeling i feel is my heart pounding i never felt and extra or skipped beat even thought extra beats were found on the monior
Male, 21 Years Old, 144 lbs, 5’5.
Was on Albuterol, but started to have bad effects, such as loss of appetite and anxiety. (Were you using it more often than prescribed or administering more of it per dose than prescribed?)
Why did you go to the ER originally when you were given the EKGs and Blood Tests, you have not mentioned heart concerns early in your post.
You were given Xanax to combat anxiety. When you increased your dose, had you your Doctor’s approval?
Pains in the Arms and Legs, were you using any other medications at the time? I have used Valium, Xanax, or Klonopin since I was in my twenties, for the most part not often (and only one of the drugs at a time). I did become mildly addicted to Valium when I was in my twenties, and I learned to tolerate the anxiety and use the drugs only for the really stressful periods. Pursuant to this topic, I have suffered neuralgia. Sometimes I wondered if it was caused by too much of drugs like Valium at the time. Neuralgia is nerve pain. Mine was in my legs and was almost too much to bear. I finally went to the Doctor and she told me that is was neuralgia, and she prescribed the smallest dose of Elavil, (amitriptyline) in the family of drugs known as tricyclic antidepressants. Within a week or so, after suffering for many weeks, I was pain free. My point is that using more of any drug than prescribed, or using some forms of drugs for a long period, can have other effects on your system. Klonopin is a life save for me, but I may use .25 mg twice a week at most. Too much for too long, for me at least, would be a problem.
I am not attempting to diagnose, but what kind of Chest Pains? It seems that the dizziness may have had a source in the potassium and sugar problems you mention. Were your breathing problems restrictive? Did you at least temporarily breath easier at the time of the Breathing Treatment, or did you feel worse? (before you left the hospital)
I’m glad to hear your Stress Test, Holter, and EKGs have been fine. You seem to be concerned about a Pounding Heart and not so concerned about PVCs. I just came off Nadolol (Corgard). It has a 20 to 24 Hour Half Life (basically the time it takes for the blood concentration to decrease by half). Atenolol (Tenormin) has a 6 to 9 Hour Half Life. Although I am back on the Atenolol since I didn’t believe that Nadolol was working as well as the Atenolol, I have always noticed while taking Atenolol that by late evening my heart would be pounding. For this reason, I am dosed twice a day now, as you are. Metoprolol (Toprol) seems to have a Half Life of around 7 hours. Consider asking your Doctor if he/she feels that Nadolol (Corgard) might be of some benefit, it certainly was for me in terms of reducing the pounding that I would experience by the evening. The only downside of Nadolol (Corgard) is that it is a non-selective Beta Blocker, which may aggravate Asthma or other breathing problems. (Though even the selective Beat Blockers may cause problems with Asthma or other breathing problems at higher doses).
Wish you health and peacefulness. Keep in touch with your Doctor.
