Sleep, sleep, SLEEP

Just had an intresting week--My son had a bout of croup on Tuesday night--about 1 AM he had trouble breathing so I bundled him up and headed for the ER.  We were there until 530AM--he was fine after but as you can imagine I got no/little sleep.

Well, let me tell 'ya--between the anxiety and lack of sleep I must have had thousands of PVCs the next two days--literally 4-5 per minuteALLl waking hours--drove me NUTS

Well-finallly got a good nights rest on Friday and had ZERO--yes that's right ZERO PVCs Saturday--got 8 hours on Sat. night and mybe had 10 PVCs Sunday.

I'm not pretending to be a MD or have a magic bullet--but it was really weird how I went from thousands to literally zero after some good rest--

So, anybody suffering---do WHATEVER you can to break the no-sleep cycle and get a good quality 8 hours.

Excercise also helps me

Let's hang in there together...

For me as well, lack of sleep brings on palpitations and arrthymias big time. Two things
which I have found helpful to induce sleep (and keep me asleep once I fall asleep)--
Delta Brain Wave CD running continuously (added benefit--calms our dogs down)
and lavendar aromatherapy. Might be worth a try...

Thank you so much for your answer.  As I have written on other posts, the first drug I was given as a teenager for palpitations was phenobarbital.  I'm sure it was a low dose as I was not walking around stoned.

It DID really seem to help and so I think I might ask my cardio if I could try a low dose.  I am aware it is a sedative hypnotic which can be addictive...but when I am running PVCs in the thousands, I DO need to chill.

It is very strange,,,I did REALLY well on Atenolol 25mg for about 4 years...I tried to wean myself off and BAM...have been miserable for months...just goes to show it is better not to mess with something that works.

I appreciate your comments and have a good night.

Hi,

You may consider asking for a low dose of Klonopin. I have a friend at work that tried one of the prescription sleep aids. It would persist even after he came to work, he finally stopped using it. I have taken a low dose of Klonopin at 2:00 AM and functioned quite well by 7:00 AM. Still a little tired, sure. Maybe I'm used to it though. Though more than being tired you are relaxed. The principle function of Klonopin is not to induce sleep.

On the other hand, another friend at work was prescribed Klonopin for anxiety related to a series of tragic events that happened to a few of his family members. This man abused the stuff. He would sit and babble incoherently, walk into walls, and fail to do his assigned work. I can't believe that he lasted there as long as he did. He was finally put out, not even officially for doing drugs, he just needed to get his life together and then have a Doctor certify him fit to return to work. He ended up getting a job elsewhere.

I have taken Klonopin, Xanax, and Valium (at various times, never together) over the last 15 years. I was semi hooked on the Valium once. I did not need intervention, just a little cold turkey (a few days of wanting it and refusing to allow myself to take it). After that I made sure to use it very sparingly. I learned to tolerate the tension as a natural part of my life. But, sometimes the tension is too much, or sometimes, lying awake in bed at 12:30 AM, knowing I have Four and a Half Hours to sleep, I need to relax quickly. I take a quarter of a 0.5 mg tablet. Next thing I know, the alarm is going off. Ah, a nights sleep (if you can call 4 and a half hours a nights sleep). Sleep is important. Both Seizures and Arrhythmias can be significantly affected by the lack of sleep.

And a secret, from my employer at least. When I have those very contentious meetings with adrenaline flying and my heart will surely be all over the place rhythm wise, I take about 0.25 mg. This happens about twice a month. But instead of being completely preoccupied with my heart, I appear composed. I have almost left these meetings to go to the plant medical center, my arrhythmia would be so bad. But Klonopin, when used sparingly, helps.

Just a thought.

Regards.

Your right it is a vicious cycle...so when I see my cardio in Nov. I'm going to ask for a sleep aide...not necessarily for every night but on those rough nights.....

Feel better...

My problem is that I cannot go to sleep when I have arrhythmias (mine are PACs), I get too anxious about them. So it is a vicious cycle, right? I would need to sleep more in order for them to calm down, but I sleep little and get more of them. I'm at my wit's end.
