The ct scan and the stress test r 2 totally different tests,,the ct scan checks for ANY blockage the stress test only checks for 70% or higher...how come u r getting the sress test? No ive n ever had a run of svt the logest mine was is 4 beats so like 3 seconds long...ps..some cardiologist dont do the ct scan foe insurance reasons.so alk with him but the main reason they do the test is to check for CAD...Good luck..Gina
Hi thanks for your kind words.... I totally know what you mean by "taken over" in the beginning (not really understanding what was happening to me) that how i was. I go back to my cardio in a couple of week to see how my LV dilation is going so fingers crossed !!
Do you think the CT scan is better than a stress test ?? I was going to have a stress test done next week but i may have to put it off as i've got a bad cold at the moment. But maybe i should ask for this Ct scan instead ??
Have you ever had sustained svt (hour or so) ??
Chat soon
hi as far as i know from reading alot of post lots of people on here suffer from multible arrythmias i suffer mostly from liittle pvc's 3 x a week and once every month or 2 i have a bad run wich is nsvt,,svt is wgen your heart goes on for more then a few beats it becomes sustained instead of non-sustaind...ive only had this a few months but let me tell u it has taken over my life...but i have had all the proper test and everything is fine so i have to trust my docs..i even went as to have a cardiac ct scan..wow that was cool i got to see all my arteries and they said i was great 0-5% blockage so that gave me some peace of mind...Have you gone to the doctor yet? if so what have they said..u need to find out exactly what you have or you will drive yourself nuts...trust me i did..you need to find a cardiologist that you trust and if he says your ok believe him trust me he dosnt want a mis diagnosis on his hands..dont let this rule ur life...take care..Gina
NSVT = nonsustained ventricular tachycardia.
Thanks for that information !!
I have had echo's etc done but haven't as yet been able to capture any real good episodes on an event/holter monitor :{ So it's hard to know what type of palps/svt i have.
Take care

Hi thanks for your reply !! Do you know if you can have more then one type of svt ??
How long has this been going on for you ??
PSVT & NSVT & SVT
Paroxysmal Supra-Ventricular Tachycardia, Non-Sustained Ventricular Tachycardia, and Supra-Ventricular Tachycardia.
Supra means “Above”. So, with my limited medical knowledge, PSVT and SVT are Tachyarrhythmias (affecting the ventricles as well) that originate above the ventricles.
Arrhythmias (affecting the Ventricles as well) originating above the ventricles is referred to as Supra-Ventricular, ergo the S in PSVT and SVT.
A Paroxysm is something that occurs suddenly. Paroxysm in PSVT refers to the “Sudden Onset” (and thankfully often the sudden cessation) of the arrhythmia.
PSVT is a form of SVT, as is Sinus Tachycardia and others listed. (according to a Doctor’s response elsewhere on this forum).
NSVT I have no information on, perhaps others may care to comment, as Ginasouthcarolina already has. ;-)
Also, a general caution, do not self diagnose. Anyone reading this forum that believes they have a problem should be examined by their Doctor to rule out anything more serious.
Wish you the best.
hi to answer 1 of your questions i have nsvt and its like 2 or 3 beats in a row or a run of pvc's it dosnt feel like my heart is going fast it feels like a fish is flopping around in my chest for about 2 seconds...thats were you get the n in nsvt its non sustained which means it dosnt last long..and its always followed by a hard beat then back to normal but its so fast that im not even aware and during the nsvt i get a burst of adrenaline its very scary i cant imagine it being longer..but i know it dosnt feel like it but its probily not serious...you shouldtalk to your cardio about mabie a med to keep it from happining again or talk about the ablation as ive heard its been very sucsessful in alot of people ....Good luck..Gina
Definitely an EP - probably better if s/he operates out of a large city/teaching hospital
Thanks everyone for your replies !!
So do you think it is better to be under a CARDIOLOGIST or a ELETROPHYSIOLOGIST ??
Or is it neither here or there??
It isn't easy to sleep. Eventually you just wear down. If I cough early enough I can stop them. Bearing down and all that does not work for me. About two ro three times a year coughing doesn't work either, then I take a 50 mg Toprol as quik as possible. Usually that helps.
An EP specialist is an Electrophysiologist - who is a specialised cardiologist who's expertise is the electrical rythym of your heart.
Hi & thanks for your reply....
So when you let it go over night how did you sleep ?? You must have been really tired the next day !! I have not started any meds yet but i think if i was getting SVT all the time i may think real hard about starting them !!
What do you do to try to convert.
Thanks
Hi & thanks for your reply....
Can you tell me what is an EP specialist ??
Thanks
I have around two or three SVT attacks each year that I consider "big ones". I'll have quite a few others that easily convert when I cough hard. The bigger ones I can convert with a toprol 50 mg tablet and it takes around 1-3 hours. Sometimes end up at the hospital in fear for my life, like this year on vacation. My HR is usually around 175 when I'm stuck. I have waited overnight once before going to ER. I would say overnight is as long as I would wait. Right now as I write this I am having PAC palps for three days straight (every fourth or fith beat), NON-Stop. Usually I'll have several everyday but the past three days they aren't going away. Tired is putting it lightly. Yes it wears me out. I'm not sure of the different SVTs but I have had seveal ablations. My trouble spot is too close to my node so it is hard for them to burn without injurying my natural pacemaker. As hard as it is to hear try to not let them run your life. I'm kind of a hypocrit because even now I feel alone and worried. Hope you feel better soon.
I too have suffered from SVT. Since August, it really seemed to ramp up with 2 trips to the ER with a heart rate of over 200...had to be converted with Adenocard. I could never let mine race for more than 45 minutes without getting scared to death. I had always been able to get mine to click back over, until August. I always felt like I had run a marathon. I don't quite know the PSVT, NSVT answer. I just had an ablation on Tuesday and I had AVNRT. It was successful and I feel great right now. They say there's a 10% chance of it recurring, due to the glitch being sort of difficult to fix. I'm going with the fact that I have 90% chance that it will never happen again. Have you seen an EP specialist? They may be able to really help you and answer your questions. The procedure wasn't bad at all, just scary.
