Short of breath in dream

I am a 60 yo male with history of bypass surgery for LAD blockage 5 years ago. I am currently in very good condition having been a runner and serious cyclist for 35 years. My resting pulse is in the low 40's but I have observed it reaching close to 180 during max exertion. Recently, I have had a number of disturbing dreams where I could not breathe, as if my head were very clogged with a head cold. Upon waking later-dream did not wake me-I would not be congested or have any trouble breathing. I was wondering whether my heart may be slowing to the point near stopping causing this dream. My mother had a similar experience last year which resulted in her getting a pacemaker under semi-emergency conditions. I had an EKG within the last 6 week at my regular cardio checkup and all was apparently well. Is Holter monitoring indicated or am I just paranoid?

It sounds like you have a great handle on your heart health.  With the PVCs and Afib in remission, I understand your concern.  I'm glad you've contacted the doctor and have an appointment scheduled.

Actually, I have contacted the doctor but an appointment is not available for two weeks. I don't feel that this is an emergency that would warrant more urgent action as the three occurrances I can remember have happened over at least 6 months. If it is something like "sick sinus" even a holter monitor might be lucky to catch it.
I do have experience with PVCs and A-fib although both seem to be in remission at this point. Recent 64 slice CT scan shows my LIMA graft to be essentially closed but I don't seem to have any symptoms, even at max exercise. I guess I'm living off my collaterals.

I don't think you're paranoid.  You have had bypass surgery and are familiar with ectopics.  I think some type of monitoring could help you figure out what is occuring during the evening.  As you say, perhaps your heart rate is too low.  Don't second guess yourself -- why not give the doctor's office a call?
