i also watched the link...it was funny to have the lady going on and on and asking the doc questions while he was actually doing the procedure...I personally enjoyed the last line the most. "This does not hurt at all".. Hahahaha. I found the ablation part of the procedure very uncomfortable, equivalent to having someone hold your arm on a hot burner and tell you not to move. I know this is not very common to feel so much of the cauterization, but i did. Overall i thought it was very interesting none the less.
I watched the video and I agree with ireneo. However I did get the shivers just seeing their cath lab. It looked exactly like the one I was in and it quickly reminded me of how terrified I was of that room and how cold it was.
One thing I found interesting was that this patient's doctor was in the "data center" or whatever you call it. My doctor never left my side during the mapping. There was another person in the data center. I'm not sure if he was another doctor or nurse or what.
I was told I would have to go to a more sophisticated hospital to have my trans septal ablation and perhaps the reason was the magnetic guidance system. I found that bit very interesting.
Thanks to candi65 for posting about this.
I went to NBC.com and watched the video. It was just a woman talking and talking about the procedure and showing the computer screen, explaining how they map out the electrical points in the heart. Nothing scary. I don't think I would want to be the patient on the table. The doctor was busy with the joy stick on the computer, talking to the people in the cath lab and she's yakking away and asking him questions. Pretty distracting I would think.
I have been struggling with the decision to go for catheter ablation for my otherwise healthy heart pvcs. I was afib originally but cardioverted twice and now just the pvcs. I have "lived with it" for 2 years and partially as a result of seeing the show I made my mind up to go ahead and go for the surgery. I hope to be in the 90% as well. I am happy you had a good result. Hope is where you find it.
Sorry i missed that one i would have loved to see it....i was lucky i was one of the 90% and think Debbier was too!!!!!!!!!!!!!
go to NBC.com click on Today show and click on Dr. Nancy Snyderman,,,check it out
I WISH I would've known that was on. I saw a listing for the today show and I just skipped right passed it. Although if I had an ablation I'm not sure I'd want the operation broadcast on the Today Show....
I'm not sure I could have standed to watch it but I am amazed it was on. What was the ablation for? What condition?
