PVC's Right After Workout, Before my heart settles

In the past, not recently, i have had pvc's during a workout.  My Cardio did not seem concerned with this.  I normally hit my tredmil 4-5 nights a week for 30 minutes with 0 issues.

Tonight i tried out a local gym, first thing i did, tredmil.  I did it for 25 minutes and had my HR between 130-140, got off, no issues, walked around for 1-2 to clean the machine and felt fine.

Then i hit the stair stepper.  Its a machine that rotates a set of step that you have to climb up with a vary of difficulties.
After 4 minutes and a hard difficulty, i was hanging on the machine because it was killing my legs.  I burned more calories in 4 minutes than i did in 10 on the tredmil.

Then after i stepped off the machine to clean it, i started having PVC's for about 3 - 4 minutes.  My heart was still pounding, and i probably had 20 or less PVC's during that span, which is funny, because before i was on my meds, that what i would get, 6-8 pvc's a minute.

Well i was freaked out, but decided to hit the shower to see if the hot water will throw me into recovery mode right away.  And boy did it help.  with in a minute of the shower my heart settled and i have not had a pvc since, which is pretty normal.

During this episode i did not have any pain, dizzyness, lightheadedness or any other symptoms.

Do you think by over working myself, that started the pvc's?  It seems like its the case since they went away after my body settled down.

FYI, my cardio doc office called after i mentioned it and they said the same thing basically.  I over did it because my body is not conditioned to that type of work out.

since i had no other symptoms and it does not happen with a normal work out, im ok to continue, but to take it slow.

thanks for the tip.  I only started working out again after about over a year.  I am over weight trying to lose, but so far so good, 11 pounds in 5 weeks.

I have this same issue as well.  If I don't push too hard I don't get the pvcs as much on my warm down.  If I was to hazard a guess why I seem to get the pvcs more when I have a more pronounced sinus arryhthmia the difference in the heart from breathing in to breathing out.  It is normal for this to occur in general at about a 10 beat difference but when I push my heart too much or too hard it will create a 20-30 beat difference that I just surmise my brain or heart want to compensate for.  Obviously I don't know that this is the exact science or cause behind it so I could be completely off base on this but it does seem as though my pvcs are worse when my sinus arrhythmia is more pronounced and that seems to occur when I over do the exercising.  So I would say just try to build your exercise speed and intensity up slowly.  The heart can be very slow to improve but it will with persistence and patience.

sorry for the double, but the only two times this happened is when i pushed my self to my limit.  I was on the tred for 30 minutes @3.5mph and got off with no issue.

well there is the problem, my heart was not slowing down.  The first time it happened, it was right after i got off the machine, and they stopped when i hit the shower and my HR slowed down

the second time same, i stopped running and kept walking 1.5mph less than i was running and got one.

These might be "recovery PVCs".  Recovery PVCs happen when your rate is returning to normal from exercise.  There is a study that correlated Recovery PVCs with blood flow issues to the heart, meaning ischemia.  So the conclusion is that recovery PVCs can be predictive of ischemic issues down the road.  Whether what you are getting are recovery PVCs or not is anyone's guess.  I'm just throwing it out there.    I used to get recovery PVCs.  not so much these days. I also had an MRI study done of my heart, and no bloackages or calcium were detected in my arteries....

funny how things happen.

Tonight i was going to hit the tredmil for 15 minutes before the game.

I walked for 2 minutes, ran at 5mph for 2 minutes and after i started walking again, boom, pvc's.  but only two this time.  In fact, i kept going for another 10 minutes (walking) after that and no issues after i slowed down.  I am not used to running and probably should have stopped when my body was wearing down.

I am starting to think that i have nothing to fear and to just take it easy on the work outs.

what do you think michellepetkus?

for anyone wondering, i walked for 30 minutes today and ran at 5mph for nearly 3 minutes, slowed down for 2 minutes without issue.

sounds like either a fluke or i really over did it

nope.  It used it happen once in a while but that was a few years ago.  My pvc's are random, i can have hardly any soft drinks or sugar and get one, but i can i can have 3 or 4 pepsis and not get one at all.

back in the day, before on my current meds, i was getting about 10k pvc's, and if i would work out, not 5 minutes when i was done they would start up.

I think this was a fluke because i really really over did it on those stairs.  i walked for 25 minutes and jogged for 4, then slowed to a crawls pace the other day and had no issue.

the same night i had the pvc's after working out i walked on my tred for 15 minutes and nothing happened.

do you get pvc often after you work out?

Yeah, they can seem to have no rhyme or reason to them.  I guess they is why they are so hard to treat.

thanks for the reply, i kind of figured that.  After getting off the tredmill, i was fine, but that thing... geeze.

Funny though, about two hours after that happened at the gym, i got on to my tredmil at home, did the exact same pace that i did at the gym, elevated my HR to about 140 for 15 minutes straight, and guess what, no pvc's.

I would say that you maybe pushed it a little too hard and your heart responded by throwing some pvcs though the amount you had would still not be considered a danger.  It really only becomes concerning when you start to have symptoms that make it difficult for you to function.  I would say try to slow yourself down before getting off to see if that helps during the cool down giving you less pvcs.  Take care.
