altered heart rate after eating

After eating I experience heart rate elevation with palpitations and get jittery. I avoid foods and beverages that contain
sodium and caffeine. These symptoms  do not occur immediately. The symptoms usually begin approx half
hour after a meal.

Hi,

To put your mind at ease....

When you eat a meal, your digestive system has to work harder than when it is in between meals to break the food down and digest it.

Because it works harder, it requires more oxygen which as I'm sure you're aware, is supplied in the blood. The other parts of your body also still require oxygen too, so the heart has to pump the blood around a bit faster to keep up with demand.

So, in summary..... A raised heart rate after eating is totally normal.

I would imagine the 'jittery' feeling that you have is more to do with some slight anxiety that as been caused by you noticing the changes.

Hope this helps!

Hello sammy315.

I was having a really great day yesterday.  I cooked up a big pot of Chili.  I used extra chili powder and spices; because, hubby had a head cold and I wanted to help clean out his sinuses by making this chili spicy.

I set down.  Ate it nice and hot.  Of course, my sinuses begain running and I felt a nice warm flush running through me, due to the heat of the chili and the spices, of course.

Immediately afterward, PVC's greatly induced and heart rate went up and I felt a bit jittery.  It subsided after awhile.

I have found that for me eating spicy foods can cause my rate to go up temporarely.  I do believe this is normal.  Also, the heart rate can go up temporarily while the body is working on digesting foods.

So, those of us that have funny beating hearts, certain things may tend to trigger or make more noticeable our particular strange beats.  It can be different triggers for everybody though.  Sometimes caffeine triggers mine and sometimes it actually helps reduce it.....just depends.

Hoping you to have a peaceful and wonderful day.
