bystolic

I have , what I think is a stress related blood pressure issue. A year ago my Blood pressure was 122/80, today it was 160/90. I am under a lot of stress, but it should be temporary.
My Doctor game me a months worth of Bystolic, which is a beta blocker. My resting heart beat is @ 48-52 and up moving around it is @ 60. I work out two- three times a week, lifting and cardio. I am a very strong 55 yr old, in really good shape. A muscular 230 lbs.
My worry is my heart beat is too slow for Bystolic. One of their warnings is not to take it if you have a slow heart beat, is mine too slow? I have had spikes in blood pressure releated to stress a few years ago, but when the stress was gone so was the higher blood pressure.
I always have had , on occation, a skipping heart beat. I dont know if that matters......Also would Bystolic hamper my workouts?

Thanks

Tom

Thanks for your info. I agree my heart rate is too slow. I took my blood pressure yesterday two times after leaving the Dr`s office. First time was 113/76 and the second time it was 135 / 78. I am not sure I really need meds. I am calling the doc as soon as they open today, Friday.
Hard not to get stressed when the Ins. company you work for cheats your office out of $40,000.

Hi,

I have been taking Bystolic for two month now. I am taking 2,5 mg a day. Which dosis did the dr. put you on?

My resting heartrate was before taking the med around 80-90. Since taking the med 55-65. The dr prescribed me Bystolic for my blood pressure and the tachycardia (fast heartrate around 133 after eating) that I was getting. What Bystolic does is it helps prevent irregular heartbeats by making your heart beat more slowly and with less force which reduces your bloodpressure. Nowadays my blood pressure is under control and I do not get the tachycardia anymore. Since taking Bytolic I was more aware of my "skipping heartbeat" than before. The dr told me that this is beacause my heart is beating more slowly.

Personally I think your resting heartrate is to low to take a beta blocker. Ak your dr for something else that is not a beta blocker. I do not work out so I cannot answer your question. I only walk for exercise.

I will also advice yoy to cut back on your stress level. That is not good for your heart or blood pressure. Try to medidate, yoga etc.

I wish you well,

Amethyst
