how dangerous is svt from dual av node physiology?

I had a EP study with ablation 2 weeks ago.  When the doctor finished he said that I had dual av node physiology and he ablated as close to the av node that he thought he could get without ablating av node and he didnt want to install a pacemaker.  He took me off cardizem and told me that it may not come back but it might because he was still able to pace my  heart and make it skip one beat and it came back after the ablation.  Now i am just waiting to see if it comes back or not.  I am 28 years old I have had about 2-3 svt episodes a year since age 16.  I have always been able to stop them with coughing of straining except the last time i had to have adenosine.  My doc said that there are some academic centers that may be able to ablate without killing my av node.  I was just wondering If I am only having episode 2 times a year is it worth it to go through the ablation again.  Does this type of svt get worse with age?  Is it more dangerous when you get older?  How dangerous is dual av node physiology?  Is there another name for it?
Thanks for the help

crikey, if I was only having 2-3 episodes a year I wouldn't be considering another ablation.
I first had an attack in Jan then another 2 weeks later, then another a few days later, then everyday, up to 10 a day.  Am now on Flecainide - highest dose, and it seems to be keeping them at bay.
I will be having an ablation.  Am seeing ep dr in couple of weeks then have to go on waiting list for ablation which is approx 11 weeks.  I have AVNRT.

If I were you I would give yourself time to recover before making any decisions.

Good luck.

Hi...

I am 43 and have been having SVT since I was about 19. I also get a couple of episodes a year which I used to just wait out. However, the last couple of episodes have been very strong (240bmp) and I have also gone to the ER and had a shot of Adenosine to revert them.

I went to a consultation for an ablation where they told me I have AV nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT) and they told me I am a candidate for the ablation but I have decided to hold off for now. I only get 1, or 2 episodes a year and want to see if quitting caffeine will help. I used to drink about 1-3 cups a day and since quitting 9 months ago I haven't had an episode. I do however get a couple of very brief episodes each month where it feels like it is going to start but doesn't. Maybe the caffeine was triggering me into SVT?

I have heard positive and negative comments for ablations, more positive though.

Hope any of this helps and good luck!
