Heart Palpitations

I have recently suffered chest pain, and have undergone several tests, ie: Chest X-ray, ECG (with excercise) and a heart monitor fitted for a day. I received a report from the hospital stating that there is no sign of coronary heart disease.

I was infomed that my symptoms could be chest muscle pain.

Whilst sitting and relaxing my heart beats very rapidly, even my wife said she can hear it!

The fast heart beat is very uncomfortable, and sometimes seems to bang against my chest wall.

Can you give any advice please?

Many thanks,

Hi, and welcome.  Since you had a work up and were cleared, yet you still feel a fast resting heart rate, you probably would like some relief along with your diagnosis.  Go see a cardiologist for final clearance and bring your questions along.  I take atenolol because I had a fast resting heart rate when I was young.  The medicine took it from 96 BPM to 47 that night.  It felt so good.  Eventually I got used to it and now my heart rate is anywhere from 60 to 76 at rest.  Much more comfortable for me. However there are trade offs...when I exercise, I cannot get my HR up past around 130.  I don't seem to have the side effects that others experience on the beta blockers, but I've been on them for over 23 years!

I would still go to a cardiologist even after a hospital work up.....just more personal.
