I diuretic was stupid because there was no reason to give it to me.
I don't have extra fluid or much water weight, or anything like that, so it didn't work.
And with a heart rate of 150 to 180, and very high blood pressure, one little water pill won't do much.
In fact, the other doctor I saw said it was a very stupid move & gave me a beta blocker and an ACE Inhibitor instead, and those controlled my pulse and high blood pressure, but I hate taking pills.
that, and my blood pressure isn't always sky high (it's usually 130/90 or 124/84, etc), so whatever. maybe my pulse is a different story, though.
Hi,
Could you please remember when did you noticed blue fingers and rest of the symptoms
for the first time,May be in 2005.Thank you
Just curious - why is a diuretic bad for arrhythmias? I have been on Diovan (with a diuretic) for years. When Paroxsymal (sp?) Afibs were diagnosed nothing was changed with the Diovan, but Metoprolol 25 mg was added to my daily routine.
After the fainting episode I talked the doc into taking me off the diuretic which I hated anyway.
So I shouldn't have been on it after the Afibs were diagnosed?
You know, my doctor really hasn't said much about my heart rate. I'm guessing he is assuming that my medications are controlling my heart rate.
Besides that, I haven't seen him in a month. I suppose I have to bring him up to date with the fact that I've had more chest pain and higher heart rates. He also probably thinks the medication is controlling it, so maybe that's why he's not too concerned.
I hear you about the doctors. Some of them can be very difficult, and think that because they are a doctor, they can dismiss things because they know it all.
Have you thought about switching? maybe that is your answer. I am fortunate to have a good cardiologist, but I remember going to a clinic doctor, who gave me a diuretic for my arrhythmia.
I was absolutely stunned, because I would have thought the doctor would have known better than to do that.
bigeminy sounds terrible. what does your dr say about having a sustained hr at that level? i had a holter done with an average hr of 76, and my dr was still concerned because every so often i have spikes of 120bpm. he kept saying that over time a fast hr can cause trouble with the muscle of the heart. i am only 20.
the problem is, i don't trust my doctor. i even brought my mom to my last appointment, and she thought something was weird about him. he gave me an irrelevant lecture about 'respecting the medication', which i do fully and don't give any indication about not doing so (and it wasn't just him saying it; he was accusatory). he dismisses my symptoms, and does not give me full explanations about what i have. i know he does not have all of the answers, but usually when a patient is fishing for something, you should give some reassurance. i do not have something life-threatening (or do i?? he doesn't tell me anything). i am not 100% for him, and i know i should just find another dr. sorry for the ramble.
I am on atenelol too, but I have a resting heart rate anywhere from 100 to 200 bpm.
88 bpm is nothing. Very rarely, will I have a normal resting rate, consider yourself lucky!
I get palpitations and stuff as well, but I also have valvular heart disease.
PVC's are also nothing, unless they are very very frequent and occur in a certain pattern.
I suffer from bigeminy, a condition where there is a PVC after every normal heart rate.
As long as you haven't had ventricular tachycardia (three or more pvc's in a row), don't worry about it.
trust your doctor, he/she knows whats best for you.
