What causes false positives in a hepatitis a test?

My son has been ill since 9/24 with right side pain, sparatic fevers, nausea sometimes, tired all the time, some weight loss, and all the blood work comes back fine, liver function is fine.  They told us on the day after Thanksgiving that his Hep A test was positive.  They believe it is a false positive because of his liver functioning fine and normal.  He also has 5-6 swollen lymphnoids.  I am so frustrated and at a loss as to finding out what is wrong with him.  I hope someone has some ideas for me.
Thanks,
Becky

if I had a nickel for every time someone downplayed my and others symptoms in here we could send you to the best liver doc on earth.
In any case, you need to get him to a special specialist because something is definitely not right, and sometimes lots of damage is occuring BEFORE the actual enzyme tests reflect that.
He may have something else causing it all, but all your listed symptoms are what I had, and they said I was fine, ultra sound was fine.   But biopsy and cat scan revealed stage 3/4 liver disease...
So run for the door if you don't have a truly educated doctor,,,,and by educated I mean at to what test really reveal what diseases, not "what test doesn't the insurance company want us to run".

sorry so sorry for your son,
but take this to heart.

I have my GP on tape this year saying oh, your liver is fine....(after ER visits, after years of giving her Your sons same symptoms as my own....when it reality, same year, different doc and the right tests revealed and it turns out  it's 3/4 gone. Some people should not be practicing medicine.
hope this helps.  You need to fight for your sons health!

If they believe its a false positive, tell them to do the test again and make sure that they tested him for hep b and c too.

Btw my liver function is fine and I have hep c, so I really don't understand what they mean. - Maybe I'm missing something. AND maybe with hep A its dfferent as far as liver function would always be abnormal  if positive- I don't know. Hopefully someone who has an answer for you will see your post.

Hope your son feels better soon. Good luck.
