I think it has to do with individuals immune  system. And also what other infections they may have with hbv.

Immunologists need to work closely with virologists on this. This is why i say that gastrointerologists are not the best people that need to be dealing with us. People that study viruses should.

According to the study abstract, the patients were in "safe" HBsAg at baseline, median was 210 ui/ml.  Although a good tool, I'm still waiting for sequential studies with HBsAg in 3-4 logs range which is more in line with average patients.  The question I would have is, why some patients experience "obvious HBsAg decrease" when on NAs and some don't?  length of treatment maybe, but at this point undetermined.

Past lamivudine use may raise liver cancer risk: In a unique study, researchers compared liver cancer risk in patients who had been successfully treated with antivirals. Despite achieving low viral loads, a small group of older patients developed liver cancer—many of whom had been treated with lamivudine. "The association with lamivudine exposure raises the possibility of drug-induced mutations associated with an increased risk of liver cancer development - this possibility is currently under investigation," they wrote.

Since I am taking entecavir and I am worried that the same will happen i.e. treating HBV with antiviral do more harm consequently.  Any comments?

interesting posters thanx for posting i would like to concetrate on % of hbsag loss during sequential treatment 50 % hbsag loss in one year treatment all seroconversions in difficult to treat hbeag negative patients(guess how that 50 would go after another year). and stef2011 was right on that after 2 years that 50 might go near 90 or patients can have a "safe" hbsag value of <1000 iu/ml. thanx again important figure for us...
