I am a 31 yr. old female. Rec'd a Hepatitis b vaccine in Sept. 2002 shortly after started to have serious headaches, was off work for 4 days with flu like symptoms which went away but the headaches continued and depression developed from not being able to function with the pain. About Nov. I started to have numbness in my foot, head pain continued by Thanksgiving the numbness was traveling up my right leg. My dr referred me to a neurologist who suggested I had MS. Dec 26 I went to the ER having trouble walking and serious head pain. I mentioned the vaccine but that was dismissed a ct scan did not show anything. The following week I had an MRI w /wo contrast which showed a lesion in the Thalamus. There was also a lesion found on the brain stem after MRI in Chicago.I was sent to a major teaching hospital in Chicago & ref. to a neurosurgon. After many tests (mri, ct scans, 3 spinal taps, evoke potential, brain biopsoy)there was no evidence of Lyphoma or MS. By this time it was mid Jan. 2003. An MS specialist was called in & said some cases of ADEM (acute disseminating encephalomyelitis)have occured after Hepatitis B vaccine. He treated me with IV steriods and chemo for 3 days. Before the treatment I couldn't walk without assistance, was on strong pain meds the treatment helped,I was realeased after 30 da. Now aprox. 10 mo. later the follow up MRI's (3) still show the lesions with enhansement, no new ones. There is still no definite diagnosis symp persist, balance ft numbness, pain. MS has been elem ,ADEM ? Have you seen this happen. Where do I get an answer?
