HCC, Cirrhosis and Liver Failure cases

Hi All,

In many articles I read that there is risk of HCC, Cirrhosis and Liver failure for the people who has Hepatitis B. Is it only for the people who are not doing regular check up and not taking any treatment or people who are not aware that they are affected with Hepatitis B?

Or it's for everyone including people who are monitoring and taking treatments and the one who doesn't?

Thanks.

There is a test to find the mutation but a bit expensive and usually insurance don't cover it. I never done it myself but knowing that I was born with it then most likely I carry one of not both of the mutations. Don't be so worried about all that just keep monitor and do your 6 month ultrasound and yearly blood work and you will do just fine.

Mutations are when the cirus integrate into the dna and makw enhancements to it. It is beleived that precore mutation and basal core promotor increase the risk of hcc for hbv carrier. Also studies talks about genotype C have the highest risk and genotype D in some as well

Hi Mike,
Thanks for the info. What do you mean by HBV mutation? U mean increased viral load?

The risk is for all hbv carrier however if you monitor you might avoid cirrhosis when significant fibrosis are present then taking medication will reverse it. Unfortunately some will still develop hcc even with healthy liver due to hbv mutation
