If by the time you start a family you are on Baraclude + Tenofovir, sounds like they will not affect your ability to be father. Precautions on both have no mention that they affect the father in your case. What do others think?
You need to be very careful going mono on Lumivudine, the literature already has enough mention of its poor potency against resistance.
I am not sure there needs to be a 3 to 4 days time to clear Adevoir + Lumivudine when you switch to Baraclude + Tenofovir. See what your hepitologist says.
Currently i am on combo of Adevoir + Lumivudine..... i think the idea is if I was to go on mono it would just be Lum.... However, my concern is if i was to go mono would that not give a bigger chance of resistance right away as opposed to combo (which i thought is the whole reason why combo is advised)...? I only had a brief conversation with hepitologist but would definately need to look into this...
Also if i was to switch my current med to Baraclude + Tenofovir could that be an instant/immediate switch literally the next day or does there have to be a time scale for the current combo drugs to leave my system (3-4 days) as Zelly mentioned...
I remembered reading ADV not a good thing for having a baby. Anyway, will get back when I have more info.
Petershine,
Suggest you talk to your Hepatologist instead of nurse for this....it's big thing & you have to be pretty sure the effects of med & baby. Unlike me & cajim, we have ours w/o knowing we have hep B....
You know, I know that Tenofovir is not contra-indicated for pregnancy so I have to believe it would be acceptable for a man to use it while trying to conceive.
Interesting, I don't know about this.
It makes me wonder though...I just read that the half-life of the anti-virals is short. About 1 - 3 days before its out of your system. I wonder if it would be possible to switch to the mono for three days before your partner's peak fertility and then pick up the other a-v again after about 2 days w/o risking a flare. There are only a couple days out of they cycle that are really good for getting pg. And with some careful charting you can often nail those days down pretty precisely.
If combo, what are the components? If mono, what is the medication?
