red yeast rice is totally free of sides with monacolin content 6mg....but in US this is not available due to the crazy FDA giving patents on natural substances to make synthetic ones and blocking the selling of natural supplements

it is extremely ridiculous the banned a food red yeast rice, used for centuries in asia and still used as a food....the problem with US is that you have drug makers decide on your freedom

i think the the claims on liver damage have been made because drug makers knew about the antiviral effects of statins and to avoid their use so thatthey can sell the more expensive antivirals

until now there is only a study on decompensated cirrhosis (end stage) with portal hypertension and simvastatin and all improved liver function, here is the link.the rest are just bla bla because you need a trial and a study to prove statins can make liver damage, liver experts said that even a rise in alt is not a sign of liver damage

it is all ********, you take it and of course monitor alt/ast every month

both simvastatin and red yeast rice are ok and they are used on cirrhosis too because it lowers portal hypertension.they also lower alt and ast and improve liver function on all

it is extremely rare to have sides from statins or red yeast rice and on liver disease alt/ast are monitored anyway so the few who get a rise in alt/ast can stop it

hbv and liver experts have already said that the claims on statins making liver damage have no proff and that it is actually the opposite, only the few getting a rise in alt/ast must take lower levels

as an example i have cirrhosis and i check alt/ast every month.....

yes but if te liver has no damage it is better to wait because there is a new interferon called lambda, more potent with almost no sides or very very mild, and some new drugs like replicor and others

in the meantime you can work on increasing vitamin d more than 50ng/ml and decreasing cholesterol as much as possible (ldl<70mg/dl) becuase cholestero is used by the virus (monacolins from red yeast rice might be the less sides better way to lower cholesterol).these two things wont clear the virus but will weaken it very much

32%patients get hbsag negative by 2 years of interferon+entecavir or tenofovir with or without off label alinia.this is the only data available

hbvdna is useless to monitor clearance of infection, only hbsag quantification can show eradication and clearance
