I'm a 39 y/o male from Mediterranean Region countries, Europe, and have been a Hepatitis B sAg positive healthy carrier since 1993 and never been treated. In 2000 my Hepatitis B Viral DNA qualitative test was detectable but the quantitative test was less then 5. The Hepatitis Be Virus Antibody was positive but the Hepatitis Be Virus Antigen was negative. My AST and ALT always have remained normal and I have been all healthy otherwise.
Two months ago I repeated the test and unfortunately my Hepatitis B Viral DNA quantitative test went up for the first time to 1200 IU/ml. The LFTs are normal and I'm fine healthwise except working to much.
My doctor said that I should see a Hepatologist to discuss the findings and possible start treatment.
Please, given my case, I would like to know:
1. when (what is the cut-off for viral count) it is recommended to start treatment.
2. Do I need to start treatment
3. what is the treatment constitutes of and how effective it is
4. what are the risks and benefits
Thank you in advance for answering my question.
