chronic HBV -- Is treatment necessary

I was diagnosed with chronic HBV , HBeAg-ve in 2001. It was just from a routine healthy check-up. I never knew I had it and never thought would have it. It was debastating for me to learn about it.I started to take milk thistle and lately, phospatidyl choline.  From 2001 till 4-21-10, my viral load had been 1.74 X 10 log 3. Then in 2010, virus started to replicate.
4-21-10 viral load was 7.84 x 10 log 3
9-14-10 viral load was 1.29 x 10 log 4
12-20-10 viral load was 1.62 x 10 log 4
1-26-11 viral load was 2.3 x 10 log 4
3-29-11 viral load was 7.44 x 10 log 3
7-11-11 viral load was 2.74 x 10 log 4
Note that viral load went down 1 log on 3-29-11.
Regardless of viral load , ALT has always been 31 and below and AST 34 and below
Do the above results merit viral treatment?

Thank you for your insights. My doctor wanted to start me with entecavir. I have been hesitant to start viral treatment because of long-term side effects. I knew there is no cure for HBV. My doctor's aim to treat is to prevent the liver from cirrhosis and HCC. She said viral treatments can stop viral replication.
My sonogram in Feb 2011 acc to my doctor did not show any cirrhosis or HCC. How often does one have to go for sonogram of the liver?
A doctor from Mt Sinai from this site recommended holding off treatment. He suggested testing for genotype.

I am confused right now. Please help.

viral load and alt are useless to define your status

hbv has no cure so only in case of liver damage it makes sense to take antivirals which can be stopped once started because totally useless on clearance of infection

fibroscan to know if you have liver damage, in case of 7kpa or higher liver damage starts to be relevnt

hbsag quantity in iu/ml by abbott architect, if hbsag is equal or less than 1500iu/ml interferon has highest chances to clear hbv

if you wanna try to clear hbv even with higher hbsag you can try a combo of:
interferon+tenofovir+alinia+vit d3+simvastatin and see if hbsag lowers by 24 weeks if it doesn t stop treatment

from trials we just have  ridicolous combo with lamivudine,, the weakest antivirals not approved anymore for hbv at least in western europe, at 2 years 35% cleared hbv so the combo above wth much more potent drug might increase this rate
