interpretation of test results

Hi. My boyfriend (African origin) has been diagnosed asintomatic hepatitis b with the following results:

HbsAg - positive
antibodies HBs-total Ig - negative
antibodies HBc-total IgG - positive
HBV-DNA LESS THAN 20 genomes/ml

The doctor seems to think that there is no risk of him transmitting the illness and also that he there is no danger to his health. In short, that there is no need for any precautions and/or specific therapy.

Can anybody confirm this to me? The information I gathered while surfing on the net is quite confusing...

Thanks a lot in advance

is he chronic or acute ? when was he diagnosed ?
if acute then he may be in his last stages of clearance if chronic then boyfriend seems to be an inactive carrier. also called healthy carrier
monitoring every 6 months is ofcourse recommended with blood work testing for ALT AST . also an ultra sound is needed every 6-12 months depending on the opinion of his doctor.

transmition of illness is always possible though low risk with his current condition however, chornic hep B tends to have some flares in DNA levels at time.. may not happen but ofcourse always is a possibility with any hep B carrier no matter what their condition so i would be very cautious with my surrounding if i was him. as for you, unprotected sex isnt a very good idea. i would get tested and also vaccinated if you havent been before. if you are vaccinated with the heo B shots then you are immune and therefore you are in no danger of ever getting it.

he needs to lead a healthy life and a good diet , liver friendly diet.. i would stay away from alcohol all at once.

please do some reading online of coping and living with hep B for better understanding of the virus and its nature

good luck
